How to Save Money at VCA Animal Hospitals Urgent Care - Sugar House
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My sister’s poodle passed away in his sleep last night. Because it’s Sunday, her usual vet wasn’t open. We found this urgent care, and called them to see if we could bring his body in. They let us come in whenever we were ready, and gave us all the time with him that we needed. They gave us a doorbell so we could alert them when we were ready for him to be taken away. They were kind and loving from the second we walked in the door, despite not knowing us, or her sweet dog. I wish I had gotten the names of the technicians who helped us, but everyone was so kind and attentive. They gave my sister space when she needed, and showed her options for beautiful boxes for his ashes, and a porcelain paw print. I mentioned that she was planning on getting a print of his nose before he passed, and they let us go to Michael’s, get an ink pad and some paper, and they were so kind to go get a print of his nose and all four paws for my sister to keep. They let us stay as long as we needed, and even provided some snacks, coffee, and other drinks while we waited. I have never had such tender care at a vet. Their patience and attention was unmatched. We could not thank them enough for all they did for us today. This was one of my sister’s most difficult days, and they made it so much easier with their kindness and gentleness. We have always loved all VCA locations, but this one really went above and beyond.

This urgent care clinic has such a wonderful team who took great care of my beloved 12 year old kitty who had a terribly big abscess on his chin and needed immediate help. They were super quick and very sweet during such a scary time for us. What I really liked was that you could check in digitally before you even arrived so you'd get to hold your spot in line saving waiting time. Over all it was a great experience and I greatly thank the team who helped us.

I messaged them on their website to asked them some questions about what was going on with a kitten I had recently rescued, my poor kitten had a huge abscesses on her tiny head. They were able to take me in the same day, and the process was very user friendly and straightforward. When I got there they took us in to check out the kitten and they were so gentle and kind like it was their own kitten. They cleaned him, gave us options and recommendations on the best treatment and medication, the staff and Dr. were amazing, definitely the best care my kitten could have received in that scary situation, he was in pain and had so much puss. Thank you Dr. and staff, we need more people like you that have the love and knowledge for animals. I would definitely recommend after the amazing recovery our kitten is having and the care you gave us. Oh! And they also let us know that we didn't have a girl kitten, he is a BOY! So that was a surprise and funny moment, they also gave us a tiny cone for his head, everything he needed, we are really truly grateful, thank you.

I was thrilled with the care me and my kitty received here yesterday. Everyone we interacted with was kind and listened to me, and really cared about my cat. Dr. Bullet was fantastic, I wish she could be our primary vet!! Thanks VCA

The wait was horrible! But their help was great. After checking in online we had to wait about 4 hours. The vet and get tech helping us was more than amazing and the vet knew right away what was going on after checking him. She had some blood work done on our dog and we immediately was referred to the 24 clinic from his results. Unfortunately it wasn't the outcome we wanted, but ANY VCA will always be my go to and recommendation. Their care for animals and us as owners are loving and understanding.
