How to Save Money at Pet Medical Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Pet Medical Services is an amazing place for your pets medical needs. They take time with you and your pet. Dr. B. Is fantastic. He is knowledgeable kind and takes time to answer any questions you may have. His staff cares also. My Poodle had a mass removal surgery. They kept me informed and called to check on her a few days after. I feel safe at this vet. They are #1 in my book.

We went to this vet for yearly vaccinations and they were awesome. They shared very useful information & were so sweet to our pup. They truly do care about animals and are willing to help how ever they can! Will definitely be coming back!

Love this vet! The techs are great too! Brought in a rescue dog and they were so good to her. And surgeries are reasonable prices.

Here is the short review: If you are in search of a vet with a staff as knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring as he is, bring your pets here. This place checks all the boxes: Facility is clean, front desk staff is courteous, techs are kind and knowledgeable. If you want my lengthy reasons as to why to bring your pets here, read on. I moved to the area 8 years ago and needed a vet. I found Dr. B and his staff thanks to Google reviews, and have stuck around with my dog and two cats ever since. Since moving here, they have helped me with everything from routine check ups and vaccinations, to my dog going from adult to senior dog; a heart murmur, him developing diabetes, bouts of pancreatitis, acquiring two sick rescue kittens, both of whom have now been seeing this vet for several years... Basically, I have run the gamut with him. In all this time, I sought out a different vet only once, earlier this year (Dr. B was booked a week out and I needed someone asap, so I went to their sister clinic in Lindon). I can say earnestly that I could not wait to go back to this clinic, and it solidified my choice in continuing to choose Pet Medical Services. Dr. B will help you make the most informed decision possible, based on what your expectations and hoped outcomes are. He understands budgets are not unlimited no matter how much we love our pets, and will work with you to come up with the most humane and practical solution. I went in a few days ago with my old diabetic dog on the decline again. They got me in same day and are helping me in getting him re-regulated, as well as helping me with the difficult and emotional decision making that comes with having an almost 14 year old dog. He also really impressed me with something he did on this last visit: Before leaving the room, he stopped and asked if I felt like he spent enough time going over everything and answering my questions. In the past, this had been the biggest thing that I felt he could improve on. I must say, I really commend him for recognizing that was an area that could use improvement, taking the feedback, applying it, and then asking how he was doing. It's not an easy thing for anyone to do, especially not someone who has been in their profession a long time and runs their own practice. Good for you Dr. B, it's been a joy watching you grow as a vet, and improving your practice. I hope you're reading this and smiling knowing your efforts have made an impact on me and have paid off. That interaction is the reason you've earned my 5 stars and why I am writing such a detailed review (sorry it took so many years). Also, gotta shout out Aubrey, she's an awesome tech, and I am always happiest when we get to be seen by her. Having a tech that you and your pets have a report with is invaluable. Please do whatever it takes to keep her employed there ❤️ If there is one thing they could do to improve my experience, it would be to offer in house financing, I would be the first to sign up 😆 Keep up the good work everyone, your hard work and dedication to your field does not go unnoticed!
