How to Save Money at Canyon View Cares - Orem previously Ribbonwood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is a great vet, and the staff really care about your furry companion. They took great care of my pup during her spay and she has healed up beautifully. 10/10

My dog passed away and I saw that this Canyon Care offers cremation services. Terrible experience from the beginning. We took my dog in after he passed and they needed a weight- the receptionist was flaky and couldn’t hold a thought when we got there. She had us put him on the scale and then she wondered off for a while and went to helping other customers- so my dead dog was laying on the scale in the waiting area and there were multiple customers that had come in during that time while he was laying there on the scale. That’s very unprofessional and I’m sure uncomfortable for the people coming in for their vet needs. She finally made her way back and we had to ask that we were given a room or somewhere to take Copper back so there’s not a dead dog on display for everyone. After all that was said and done, I finally got Copper’s ashes back- however, it was not what I had paid for- it was just a plain box without his name or picture sleeve (which I paid extra for). I had called the vet multiple times telling them this and asking for updates, and they kept telling me they were working on it. I finally reached out to the company that actually does the cremation for the vet and they said they hadn’t received any calls from the vet regarding this. The cremation company that contracts with Canyon View is getting it taken care of now but I highly suggest going somewhere else.

The vet took great care of my Pomeranian who had a full mouth extract. They took great care of him and gave him an overnight stay for free when my dogs platelets levels were low, they wanted to keep an eye on him. 2 weeks later my dog is healed up and full of so much energy!

Their lady vet is amazing. She always makes my dogs feel comfortable while caring for them and is great at informing me as we go. She listens and takes my concerns into consideration when helping me decide what's best for my dogs. We love it there because of her.

I am truly blessed today that they were able to get our baby Freya in for a emergency visit. I called around for an hour through all the vets in the valley including our normal vet and they were all booked. I called here and they luckily had an opening for her right after the phone call! I probably came in more frantic than I should of been but they were so kind to Freya and I. They did a quote before the tore nail procedure and explained what they were looking at doing for her. The quote was a few dollars more after but that happens because it is a quote after all. She was treated so good and they called right away when she was ready to be picked up. Thank you so much for being able to help us out!
