How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

i really do love this location and make a 45 minute drive just to come here. however i had a rough experience this past visit for my Rusty.. it was supposed to be a drop off dental appointment, and they’d let me know when she was ready. however i waited 6+ hours without any notice, finally i called the office myself and they told me she’s been ready and that the doctor “might” have tried to reach out to me (they didn’t). i just feel horrible that my poor baby was locked in her crate/a metal cage for hours due to the fact the receptionist, vet techs, and anyone else couldn’t have called me to pick her up. 6 hours for a dental cleaning is ridiculous. please try to do better, if you’re a pet owner you can understand the stress of dropping your pet off in the first place, going hours with no update is even more stressful. i do appreciate all the care i have gotten from dr grover and everyone at this location for my kitty. the vet techs as well, usually decorating her discharge bag with stickers/cute designs. i will continue to come here, just hope that there’s more communication in the future :)

This place is ridiculous. I signed up for one of their Wellness Plans, which require you to schedule an appointment in 30 days. Then, you go to their website, and you can't schedule anything at any of the locations because you can only book 60 days out and they have no availability in the next 60 days! Then, your supposed to call a location and get scheduling options over the phone... but no one ever answers the phone... voicemail only. 6 messages in three days, no return calls. This is a TERRIBLE way to run a business, especially when people's beloved pets are involved. Do I have up physically go on to make a damn appointment? No thanks... thank God my pet wasn't sick and in need of any kind of real help.

Found this place while looking for someone to take a look at one of my snakes. Dr. Orr took on that duty. He was super gentle and kind to my snakes and takes pride in making sure they are 100% before checking out. What was even better was for 100% service we paid very little. I have 14 snakes and I know where they will go from now on. We have even since taken our two dachshunds to see Dr. Orr who is just as sweet, gentle, and playful with them as he is with our snakes. They really do have all around service for domestic and exotics. Thank you for being our new veterinarian.

We’ve had some rough vets in the past, and have paid so much money for very little care. However, we have always had a great experience at this Banfield location. They are always so nice and take great care of our dogs. We have my senior dog on a wellness plan, and it helps so much. I don’t know that I can ever go anywhere else.

We usually take our pets to Banfield for all of their health needs. They offer affordable plans that covers the needs of any of your fur babies. We take our dog to the Draper Creekside location to have his nails trimmed and the staff always does a great job. Due to covid-19, they offer curbside drop-off and pickup and have recently started letting a few patients inside. Four Stars just because it can be difficult to get an appointment if you need to be seen fast and we've had to rush or animals to further locations to be seen. Also the location isn't the most convenient. That said, we love Banfield and will continue taking our animals there.
