How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

TERRIBLE experience. Would do zero stars if I could. I was originally planning to set up a whole subscription plan, 20 minutes into the appointment I knew I never wanted to bring my dog back here ever again. Left with no information on what we scheduled the appointment for. The tech working with us was making zero sense, and speaking literal gibberish. Couldn’t answer any of my questions about my dogs issues or about the pricing of everything. When I asked if we set up the plan if we could cancel at any time she could not give me a straight yes or no answer. Just kept trying to sell me on it. They took my dog back to get an ear swab, and they did not even clean his ear while getting the swab. Heard them yelling at him and getting super frustrated. Mind you my dog is only 4 months old, obviously he’s not gonna be super cooperative. As vet you should know different ways to handle puppies instead of getting frustrated with them. So thankful I didn’t do the drop off option I can only imagine how they treat the pets when no one is around. He came back into the room so on edge and so scared. When she came back into the room she kept saying how difficult he was. I’ve never met a 4 month old puppy that isn’t difficult. On top of all that the place was FILTHY looks like they never clean. My dogs paws were completely black after leaving and I was even covered in random animal hair just from sitting in the room. DON’T TAKE YOUR PETS HERE THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY.

I recommend getting a wellness plan to all of my friends who love their pets. I have all 4 of my pets on it. It makes the dental cleaning way more cost efficient since it's included in the plan. My oldest dog seems to get a new lump every month and I love that I can bring him in quickly to get them checked for no extra cost. I would be losing so much money if I had to pay for each appointment separately, at any other vet. I love the comprehensive physical exams I get twice a year that test everything and make sure all of my pets are healthy. I love being able to chat with a doctor at any time with pet chat. I've been on this plan for 3 years and it has eased my anxiety by a million. I definitely recommend it if you love your pets!

Trust the bad reviews. This place does not care for your pet. They only care for your wallet. I get a feeling that this is Petcos original dog care service but they rebranded it because of how bad they treated animals. I went it for a simple exam today and knew within 10 minutes they would never touch my dog again. If you care for your pet at all, don’t take them here. If you don’t care about these reviews, you don’t deserve a pet.

I acquired 2 puppies that hadn't had bathing experience. Eden and Aubrey at Petsmart in American Fork were gentle and patient and my puppies were beautiful and clean and willing to do it again. Thank you.
