How to Save Money at Alpine Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our dog was attacked and had multiple bite marks. We thought we could clean and manage her at home, but after several days, we knew we needed to take her in. The staff were so kind. They took excellent care of our pup and were also so compassionate towards us. We will continue to go to Alpine Animal Hospital. PS- they were more affordable than we ever imagined.

The office staff is helpful and friendly. Dr. Mike knows his stuff! Every time I take our dog in for a checkup, Dr. Mike teaches me something. For instance, our dog’s tail has a kink in it. She had it when we adopted her. He let me know that it likely will be fine but that the kink could “slip” and cause her pain. It’s nothing to worry about, but now I know there is a chance it could happen, and if it does, I know what to do. Tidbits like that are easy to remember and increases my knowledge about our dog and how to care for her. I highly recommend Alpine Animal Hospital! It is worth the 30+ minute drive to get there!

Dr Mike and his staff and been excellent at caring for our sweet Nora. She came to our home in Sept of 2021 at age 14. Nora is a rag doll cat and is now 16+ years old, if it were not for Dr Mike and his caring attitude and willingness to see her and try everything possible to help her she would not still be with us today! I Love the staff and Dr. Mike. I am so grateful we were referred to them. Everyone there is so kind and caring!! Thank you for every extra day we have with Nora!!❤️

Dr. Mike and his team have taken care of all of our pets. Unfortunately, our lab had a murmur that was hard to hear and she was very healthy, it got missed. Dr. Mike did everything he could to get us to the right dr’s and even met us after her heart surgery (on his weekend off) to help with wound care. We got roughly 10 months with her post surgery and she passed suddenly. Where he really earned my respect was when he called me to just help put my worries to rest and also said he had been texting back and forth with her cardiologist. He made a good point- he said we did everything and more for that dog and had we known she was going to die would we have been in a position to put another 10k into her. That really made me think as he could have sent her elsewhere for more heart issues and tbh we had battled her heart for quite sometime and never knew it. When a vet tells you you’ve gone above and beyond to save a dog, they aren’t lying. She passed away, unexpectedly yet quick, playing one last ball of fetch with her favorite person, my husband. Dr. Mike was always very patient with her and is, knowing we loved her and her sister dog like children. Dr. Mike is in high demand and even if he’s direct, that’s not bad. I’d rather someone be direct and honest, than a liar who manipulates patients for money. We appreciate his suggestions for our next dog and to our surprise we are pretty sure we found a rescue per his suggestion. Thank you for the love and care you and your staff gave Mila. Dogs are better than people and so loyal. I love that Dr. Mike is the same way and respects those who really care for pets.
