How to Save Money at Wimberley Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
If I could give a higher review I would! Dr Sheffield & his staff are amazing. We had a sweet poodle several years ago that was dying & no other vet around could figure what was wrong. Dr. Sheffield figured it out & gave her expert care so that she lived her full life! Now, we have our sweet rescue LP that’s having all kinds of issues. For the past 3 months we are in constant contact with Dr Sheffield & his staff to monitor LP’s condition. The Doc even consults with a specialist about LP! No other Vet around has the expertise, compassion and professionalism that Wimberley Vet has. Thank you all so much!

We had an urgent need and WVC was able to squeeze us in spontaneously. They provided amazing care and Dr Ferguson took so much time to explain to me what was going on with my puppy which I really appreciated. We will switch from our regular vet to WVC now because of this great experience.

If I could give this clinic more stars, I would! Our last vet was very scary and gave both of us a lot of anxiety about vet visits, and after trying Wimberley Vet Clinic today, I will never have to feel that anxiety again. Dr Sheffield and the technicians that work here are amazing and kind. My cat is typically extremely fearful and usually responds with aggression, however, she had the best experience here and didn’t even hiss once! I cannot express in words how grateful I am to this clinic, they’ve helped me and my girl so much. Not only was our experience good for us mentally, but financially, this was a very well priced vet visit. I was expecting a much more expensive hit, and I was surprised with how cost effective it was considering how nice, clean, and helpful this clinic was. I could write a whole novel about how amazing Wimberley Vet Clinic is, but I do hope that my words can persuade you to visit this place next time your pets are in need for care.

I took my dog in to address an arthritis concern and after a consultation and several lab test performed, the vet ordered two meds; one they had in stock and the other had to be ordered. I paid for them both and started my dog on the one given at the clinic. My dog actually got better within two days of administrating the first med. I decided to keep her on that one med since she improved significantly. The vet clinic notified me several days later that the second med arrived and I could pick it up. I spoke to the vet by telephone about only keeping her on the first med and she agreed, so I asked for a refund of the second med which I had not picked up. I was told that they would not accept the med back because it had been ordered specifically for my dog. I am unhappy with this clinics position not to refund me for the second med since I never picked it up and they can most probably use it sometime in the future for another dog patient. This vet clinic has lost a potentially satisfied customer.

We are originally from ILLINOIS & rescued a Vizsla from Texas three summers ago this June. Upon our visits to Texas to see our grown adult children, our ‘guy’ always did, and does, the road trip with us. Upon a few occasions, our ‘guy’ decided to eat a poisonous plant, and was seen immediately after office hours. We had the privilege of seeing Doc and Dr. DeVries upon our arrival at the clinic. Doc, and his wife, we’re taking care of an injured horse~ but took time to check our ‘guy’ and Dr. DeVries went right to work to relieve our ‘guy’ of any poisons in his system. Dr. DeVries was patient, kind, efficient, and understanding of our V’s situation on her day off. Both Veterinarians went above and beyond the call of duty that day to assure us our ‘V’ would be fine. Exceptional care by both Doc and Dr. DeVries. A year later, our ‘guy’ was able to visit Dr. Ferguson to have both eyes checked from a previous surgery done in ILLINOIS. While we were back in Texas visiting, we wanted a second opinion on our ‘V’s eyes. Dr. Ferguson did an amazing job checking & biopsing both eyes. Fergie called in on her day off to double check on our Vizsla to make sure he was doing well! Over and above the call of duty! We have now moved to Texas to be with our adult children and grandchildren. Our ‘guy’ was recently in at the Clinic to have all of his vaccines, labs, and meds refilled. Dr. DeVries was the chosen Veterinarian. Unfortunately for her, I am ‘one of those clients who expect nothing but the very BEST treatment for our family member’ ‘guy’! 🙄😂🙄 Dr. DeVries did not disappoint in any way. To add an additional note, our ‘guy’ ended up with a partial tear of his ACL, which Dr. DeVries is managing above and beyond what I would ever expect. We have Always been impressed with the care, concern, and experiences we have had at Wimberley Veterinary Clinic. We believe our Vizsla has always had the very Best care from the moment we walk through the door and once our visit has been completed. All staff members are kind, caring, and go out of their way to make sure we have had the Best care for our Family Member~ which we always have had from WVC. I would highly recommend this Clinic, and its entire Staff to anyone who is looking for the very Best care and most knowledgeable Veterinarians, who believe in giving the very Best care to their patients. I trust our Vizsla with the entire Staff at Wimberley Veterinary Clinic, and highly recommend the Clinic to everyone who desires the Best for their beloved Family members~ in our case~ Vizsla! Instead of 5 Stars~they deserve 10! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🐾🐾❤️
