How to Save Money at River Park Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Wonderful team. All very helpful. I am a new dog owner and had a lot of concerns with going to a vet and scared about what to expect. I like to know what I will be charged up front. I communicated this with the team and they make sure it happens. Made me realize they really care about the needs of their customers. They ensure for all my visits it is explained and they respect the vaccines I want and don’t want for my dog. There’s no pushy sales tactics. They really have made me feel so comfortable and the veterinarian even responded to my husbands email with questions right away after a visit. They are very on top of communication and I just love that. The assistant is great too! She just loves our Roxy and we really enjoy this place. It’s very welcoming and everyone is so friendly and on top of it! When I send an email or a text they are so helpful. So Easy to book appointments. I am so lucky to have found such a great vet and a great team!! I can’t say enough great things about them.

We brought our 5 lb yorkie rescue in for a much needed dental evaluation/cleaning. I felt like we were in good hands right from the start. Dr. Luo took the time to talk with us, provide a tour and introduce her team. They did an excellent job cleaning his teeth and loving on him. Even sent a photo update. I appreciate their assessment and holding off on extractions due to temperature during anesthesia concerns. Great experience and we will be back for future needs!

I can’t say enough about the incredible care my pet Stormy received from Dr. Luo and her staff at the River Park Veterinary Clinic. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warmth and professionalism that immediately put both me and Stormy at ease. Dr. Luo is truly exceptional—she took the time to explain everything in detail and answered all my questions with patience and kindness. It's clear that she has a genuine love for animals and a commitment to their well-being. The entire staff mirrored her compassionate approach, treating Stormy with such gentle care that I knew she was in good hands. The clinic itself is well-organized and clean, which made for a comfortable environment. I could see that everyone on the team works together seamlessly to ensure that both pets and their owners feel valued and cared for. I highly recommend River Park Veterinary Clinic to anyone looking for top-notch veterinary care. Dr. Luo and her team go above and beyond, and I am so grateful for the exceptional service they provided to Stormy. Thank you for being such a wonderful part of our pet’s healthcare journey!

My highly energetic and food motivated dog suddenly stopped eating and started acting lethargic. I took him here and they tested his blood work which showed that he was anemic. His red blood cell count was 21%(20% is considered critical and unlikely to survive). The cost to go to a specialist and do a blood transfusion and all the extra blood tests to verify the source of the drop in blood cells was far more than I could afford to spend.(10k minimum) River Park Clinic staff was above and beyond kind as I explained what I could/couldn’t afford. They presented me with all the options and we treated him in the most affordable way we could! I took him home unsure if he would live through the weekend, gave him the recommended medication, and continued to monitor his behavior. The day after the appointment the vet called to check in and let me know she was praying for a recovery. He is still on medication and going to check ups, but he has survived a month(when originally checked, he was given 2 days to live if we didn’t treat the issue). His red blood cells are now in a normal range and he is back to his playful self, eating his dinner in under a minute and begging to play fetch every time we go outside! River Park Veterinary Clinic has been so kind throughout this entire process and is the reason my dog is still alive! I am so thankful for all of their kind staff!
