How to Save Money at Veterinary Medical Center of The Woodlands

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I highly recommend this veterinary clinic 100% because they were so welcoming and loving with our dog. They made us feel safe and trusted, even though we didn’t come under the best circumstances, as our puppy Limón was very sick and we had to put him to sleep. At all times, we felt understood. Thank you to the entire team for caring for our beloved and remembered Limón and for being part of this short but beautiful story. We will always be grateful for the care you provided and for your professional and friendly team.

I’ve been taking my bunny here for four years. It’s hard to find a quality exotic veterinary clinic that is within my budget and knowledgeable of my pet. VMC checks both of those boxes. I have moved multiple times in the Houston area and will still make the drive to see Dr. Goodyear. She has treated my bunny, Kiwi, for everything from skin infections to nail clippings, all while being gentle enough that Kiwi does not mind going to the vet! A few years ago, Kiwi caught a severe double ear infection. It was a difficult time for both of us, and I was worried she would take a turn for the worse. However, for the months that she was sick, Dr. Goodyear made it her goal to get Kiwi back to the happy, sassy bunny she was before, even though many bunnies suffer lifelong complications from ear infections. Kiwi did make a full recovery, and I know that if she ever gets sick again, Dr. Goodyear will do everything she can to make Kiwi feel like herself again. I cannot recommend VMC enough, such a great place for bunnies!

They are amazing, we recently discovered them and we could not be any happier. We struggled finding a place that actually cared about our pets and wasn't all about $$. Our initial visit involved a foster dog who unfortunately did not make it due to his condition at that time. The team at Veterinary Medical Center of The Woodlands really showed care, answered all of our questions, explained everything to make sure we were taking an educated decision. We left and decided to put him down right when they were closing, they actually waited and stayed an additional hour after work to help our foster dog cross the rainbow (Limon). We never felt rushed to say our goodbyes. Since then, we decided to switch vets and bring family pets here. Their pricing is very competitive if not less than other vets around the area. The location is clean, the service is great. From setting up an appointment to check out. Appointments can also be done online. Special thanks to Dr. Kristin Long, and Kasey for all their help.

We found this vet during a crisis with our pets; cats. They were very responsive, helpful, and took their time without rush to see us through our issues and help get everything on the right track. After moving to the area and going through numerous vets that didn't quite hit the mark, we can't imagine going anywhere else from now on. Great staff, great medical care. Thanks so much!
