How to Save Money at Stuebner Airline Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been going to Stuebner Airline Vet Hospital for about a year or so now and we have had wonderful experiences with the vets. We started with Dr. Heimlich who was SO caring and wonderful and (when he retired), we started with Dr. Schmidt who is so down to earth, caring and informative. Everyone listens to our concerns and answers our questions. From the front desk to the techs in the back, everyone always treats them (and us) so kindly and with compassionate care.

Came in as a walk-in after a dog bit our sweet girl in the face. The front staff were very kind and accommodating. Dr. Vandermeer and technician Becca were wonderful! They accept Galina even though she did not have an appt. A quick, easy, and thorough visit! I highly recommend bringing your furry loved ones here!

My wife has worked here for over 50 years. She always is excited to go to work because of the clients, doctors and the amazing team she works with. One thing she said is the quality of medicine they provide is above any other. The doctors made sure they have all of the great equipment they need to do a great job. The hospital saw a need for a client liaison and now Liz is able to be more available for clients and their pets. She is also able to go out in the community and have small groups meeting to talk preventative care, answer questions and form relationships. My wife said this is a hidden jewel in North Houston that provides service like an old time vet but up to date with technology. The picture is of her in her maiden speaking engagements to Cadence Creek 55+ living off of Gosling Road.

My vet was on Christmas break with no Dr. on call. I Stuebner Hospital to see if they could see my beautiful 12 yr old lab. They worked me in on Saturday and Dr Wulfe was so kind and compassionate. Unfortunately, Ms B only had a few days left before crossing the Rainbow Bridge. We came back after Christmas and they were all so kind and loving. 5 stars for a hospital that had never met us before. Today we got a card with all of their signatures. Our family thanks them.

It is nice looking, but the doctors inside of it have the strangest schedule. They might not come to the clinic but 1, 2, or 3 days out of the week. sometimes in the next week, they may not show up at all. When they are in the clinic, the doctors only work certain hours and it is very hard to get phone calls into them and from them. There are about a bus-load of doctors who work here. I do not know if this a training ground or what? But they rotate through here like crazy. I do not know how this clinic stays open at these times, when they are hardly in the office. Then the medication cost is another mountain. The prices of purchasing your baby's medication is astronomical. It gets higher and higher each time you do a refill there. this clinic needs some work! The ladies at the front are nice, though.
