How to Save Money at Animal Health Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I’ve been bringing my babies here for almost a year now. I always feel confident they’re getting the best care and at decent prices. Dr Locke is sure to inform each patient parent of everything they need to know and any recommendations he has. I had my golden whose eye cyst grew too large and it was about $400-$450 for sedation and removal.

Love this vet and the staff. Great quality of care and attention to detail, and takes a lot of time explain things to you. Highly recommend!!

Not impressed. Took my cat Charley in due to a UTI and they were more concerned about other conditions, so they ran a lot of tests, why costs over $400 and sent me home with pills I couldn’t get down his throat. Go to next appointment and the young vet (new) just looks at me and really doesn’t seem to care and help address the condition!

I'm shocked and saddened for our community that I even have to write this review today. We have used Dr. Locke (now retired) in the past for 2 emergency situations (one w/ my service dog and the other with my daughters rabbit), and recovery care, and he always handled them with compassion and understanding. We are always on a budget as I have a lot of medical expenses regularly due to my chronic illness, so money is tight. In the past Dr. Locke was very good about working with us financially when we needed to, and never refused to see my animals because of my inability to pay everything up front. He also necer made us wait in an emergency-EVER. Today, I called in a panic, and told the girl what was happening with my dog, and that it was definitely an emergency- possibly life or death. She came back on the phone and told me that they would try to work her in but didn't know when she could be seen- even after I told her I was concerned she is dying from possibly drinking mop solution. I explained to her that I just got out of the hospital with a spinal injury from a fall, and am awaiting a surgical procedure so my husband has been having to take care of me full time and he would be the one bringing her. Still no time frame or urgency on her part. I was very honest and up front about our current financial situation and told her that I could pay a minimum of $143.00 today at the very least, maybe more since we hadn't talked to family yet, but I would need a payment plan on the remaining balance- and even offered to provide my account info for auto withdrawals for payments if they could just please speak with the new vet or office manager and tell them the severity of the situation. The girl said they don't make exceptions and that the policy is you have to pay everything up front. She told me to bring my dog and I could pay $55 for the vet to look at her and we could either decide to move forward for payment or not, this does not include anything except the exam. She said any testing that would need to happen, blood work/xray etc., would have to be paid up front, no exceptions. I asked her again if she spoke to the vet about the severity of the situation and was this was the vets call, or could I maybe speak with someone with the authority to make an arrangement of some kind please? She said there wasn't anyone else I could talk to and I could pay to talk to the vet at the exam. First, why would I pay to ask the vet to consider a special payment arrangement in an emergency situation instead of just trying to talk about it beforehand? Second, when did compassion get thrown out the window? I know everyone out here is struggling, believe me I live it daily, but ZERO understanding or willingness to help someone as a medical professional with moral standards is kind of crazy to me. I'm not asking for a handout, I was willing to pay them, but really? Disappointed doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. We need more caring people on this world and ai feel like or community deserves better.
