How to Save Money at O'Connor Road Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

O’Connor Road Animal Hospital has been taking care of both of my pets for 14 years. I am extremely thankful for the amazing service received. The care one of my pet’s received during the emergency surgery to remove bladder stones was extraordinary. Katarina went above and beyond to schedule everything and was very compassionate with me during the surgery. Doctor Schmeltzer, my pet’s vet was not there at the time but Doctor Graham took care of my 12 year old shitzu incredibly well. All day during the surgery, I was called with updates and everyone were very attentive at all times. Brittney, the technician and Katarina were very involved and I will ll be forever thankful for the most caring support I received on that day. The girls in the front office, Starr and Cameron were also very kind and helpful. I recently took my other pet to get treated for an ear infection and was seen by doctor Marin who was as good as the other vets. Thank you Doctor Schmeltzer for the amazing care Armani and Chanel have received all these 14 years and thanks to Doctor Graham for the dedication and wonderful results of the surgery. Both of my pets are doing great thanks to this team of amazing people. I highly recommend this hospital to everyone because your pets will get excellent care at all times.

My family started coming here with our childhood dogs in 2013 and have always loved it. I’ve always worked at vet offices and just take my pups to wherever I’m working but I recently left my last clinic which meant my own kiddos needed a vet. Without hesitation, I chose O’Connor vet knowing they’ve always taken care of my two little childhood dogs (who are now going be 11 in July). I have four dogs of my own and was super nervous to find a vet where they would be comfortable and for the first time, I wouldn’t be able to be in the back with them which had become normal for them. I had to take my Pyrenees in to treat an ear infection and he’s one of my nervous Nelly’s. He walked in pretty confident and the ladies at the front desk even complimented him. Once we were in an exam room, he was laying down calmly where he’s normally pacing and panting. They said he did great for everything and did their best to keep me updated knowing I was worried I wouldn’t be in the back with him for the first time. They sent us home with 3 different meds for him and even with the exam fee, the grand total was lower than I thought it would be. I’m so relieved to have a found a vet that not only I’m comfortable at my my babies too!

My husband took our Labrador here as a puppy during covid. We weren’t aloud inside at the time and they would take her to the back by herself. Ever since, we cannot take her to any vet or groomer without sedation. It’s so sad. Something happened to her at this vet 110%!!!! Don’t recommend at all because you shouldn’t have to be standing there for them to treat animals properly!!!! 4 years later and we still can’t get her nails done or a basic vet appointment! She is the most well behaved-trained doggy. She is absolutely TRAUMATIZED and it only started AFTER she left this vet!!!

My puppy has blood in his stool, and they handled everything great. I called around to other vets before coming to ask if I could just walk in, or if I need appointment. Like different 8 vets I called couldn't take us in and didn't give us any time or compassion towards the situation. Till I call this vet here. The person I spoke too squeezed us in with in an hour and was compassionate towards the situation. When we arrived they were professional and speedy! Great experience and will be coming back if ever needed!

Everyone was friendly and accommodating. As a walk-in, I didn’t have to wait long at all. Dr. Marin was awesome! She was informative and spoke with me in a way that put me at ease. Greatly appreciate the entire team’s support! Highly recommend ⭐️
