How to Save Money at Blue Cross Pet Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my cat Pumpkin here for a second opinion during walk-in hours, and Dr. Gateman was able to find a heart murmur and diagnose a heart condition that was previously missed by another vet. Dr. Gateman is compassionate, knowledgable, and was happy to answer any questions I had. She was great when working with me on finding the best tests within my budget and explaining what the next steps are moving forward in Pumpkin's care. Everyone at the front desk and the technician I met were very kind as well. I'm so glad I came to this office for a second opinion. Thanks again!

I’d like to say the staff is amazing! They took such great care of my dog. Helped me with recommendations and went out of their way to assist me when his stitched ripped because he was picking at them. I’m forever going here. Thank you to all the staff for making this a great experience.

My normal vet was closed and my puppy needed to see a vet asap. Everyone at Blue Cross Pet Clinic was amazing! They except walk-ins which I was and even though I had to wait a little bit it was totally worth it. The place is very well run and clean. Their prices are reasonable as well. I highly recommend this clinic.

I went to this pet clinic with high hopes based off its many excellent and high reviews only to be disappointed and full of regret. Our pet peach is a very dear member of our family and our fur baby, we initially brought her in because she was showing very concerning behavior over the last couple days. After waiting about 3-4hrs to be seen which I understood the wait considering I was a walk in the morning of I was super grateful they were able to see her however an incident that occurred during the examination of her left me incredibly concerned and overall ruined my entire experience with this pet clinic. Dr. Karen cousins and her assistant were examining peach and did not have a good hold of her, she of course as any pet wanted to come towards me her owner and leaped forward to jump off the exam table while they were not paying attention. I was seated in the chair provided letting the doctors do what they needed to and they happen to try and catch her as soon as they realized she was going to jump, this catch resulted in my dog turning on her side and hitting the ground and her head very hard from the exam table (which was pretty high up). When I showed my concern and distaste for the mishandling of my pet, they did little to nothing to make sure she was okay after the fact and to rectify the situation or show any real concern. regardless I finished up with her visit, paid and left. this situation hasn't left my mind since and I just wouldn't feel right letting anyone else bring their furry family members here as well without sharing my horrible experience. My dog has been limping ever since even though it has been almost a week after this incident which I feel upsets me even more and is a constant reminder to me that I will never refer any of my friends or family here. this incident occurred on 7/25/23 so very recently. please proceed with caution when going to this pet clinic if necessary.
