How to Save Money at Integrative Veterinary Wellness
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Smallwood and her staff are beyond amazing! Words can not express how thankful I am that we found her and her team for our 9 year old Husky Denali. Denali was diagnosed with a rotator cuff injury (simple way to put it) after her MRI scan. With numerous phone calls to other offices we landed an appointment here. Dr. Smallwood was very informative about what was going to happen/needed to do. From the PRP injections to shockwave therapy she guided us every step of the way. Denali can be a problem child (she hates her feet/legs being touched) and with the help of Angela and her calm demeanor Denali grew to love coming to see Dr. Smallwood and Angela! (She allows them to do what they need to do with her legs during therapy with a side eye look) We love the communication with this office from vet tech to doctor and back to the patient. Your questions get answered in a timely manner and information you need to help furry baby get better. We love that Angela gives us a run down of how the appointment went and if a shoulder is/was more sensitive that visit and what we can do to help. We drive almost a hour each way and honestly it is the best decision we’ve ever made for our girl. She has started acting like a pup again and became more herself within the first couple of months after the first round of PRP injections. Within a year we’ve seen so much improvement and have gotten to see her enjoy life again. Thank you so much Dr. Smallwood and team for everything you guys have done for Denali! A thank you isn’t even enough with how much we appreciate you guys. 💜

I've been meaning to post this review for quite sometime now, but I needed some time to process the difficult moments that Dr. Smallwood and her team helped me through. Even after more than a year, writing this isn't easy for me. My pup (Aurora) was the center of my universe in ways I can't even begin to describe. So I always looked for the very best care for her no matter how small or big the issue was. This was especially important when she was suddenly diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer only three years after she came into my life. Absolutely devastating! Although I live in Houston, Dr. Smallwood helped me over the phone and messaging to guide me through the process of helping my best friend be as comfortable as possible in her final moments with me. Even when Dr. Smallwood was on vacation with her family, she took the time to answer my questions. She went to lengths to help me far beyond what local vets were willing to. Best of all, there was a strong emphasis on natural medicine that was far more effective than the pharmaceutical methods that often caused side undesirable side effects. Dr. Smallwood took time to explain the science behind all of her recommendations, and the results were immediately apparent! The moment I started implementing her methods, Aurora snapped back to nearly her normal energetic self. Those few weeks of seeing her happy and energetic before I had to let her go was so priceless! As a human health and performance specialist myself, it was a breath of fresh air to work with a DVM who took a truly scientific and natural approach to healthcare. And do so in a truly caring manner, rather than the transactional approach I often felt from other providers. Their care didn't stop at the end of her life. I received a postcard about a month later notifying me Dr Smallwood had made a donation to an environment conservatory to have a tree planted in Aurora's memory... absolutely above an beyond!! Although there was nothing I could do to save my best friend, I know her life was extended and made the most comfortable it could be and it made the loss more bearable because of Dr. Smallwood and her team. I am forever grateful!

Incredible place to take your pet, truly caring, Dr Smallwood was recommended to me by another vet and I'm very grateful for it... My English bulldog has a couple of disk herniations and their holistic approach to treatment with cold laser, chiropractor, Chinese medicine, and acupuncture is like no one else. Super friendly, I would take my dog anywhere else.

Dr. Smallwood and staff exceeded my expectations. When I made the appointment, they were booking 8 weeks out. And the initial consultation fee seemed high to me. This was the 2nd Alternative/ Specialty Veterinarian I had seen for my pets partially torn Achilles tendon. We are going the conservative route and not doing surgery for our 13 ½ year old Labrador Retriever. After meeting Dr. Smallwood for the first time, it was obvious why she was so in demand. She is compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly cares about improving the quality of life for her patients. We have talked on the phone several times and I had a follow appointment with up with her. She has never rushed me. She covers all bases and honestly answers as many questions as you may have! She even worked us in (last minute) before she left for vacation. I am so excited to be working with her and her staff. I finally feel like my pet is in good hands. I have also had the pleasure of working with Reni, Rehab Specialists, to get my pet fitted for a leg brace. Reni was very in thorough in explaining all details and following up with me. If you are uncertain about making an appointment, just do it! You will not be sorry.

Best place for your dog to receive rehab from injury or surgery. They’ve been treating my French Bulldog for spinal issues, she has actually improved over the past year. I was just hoping for her to hold her own and she has actually improved and is walking better and is her happy self.
