How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It was hard to get our dog euthanized but they made the process less painful. A few weeks later we received a card and our dog’s paw print in it which melted our hearts. Thank you, Banfield Team.

Never come back , if I can do 0 start. Don’t waste your money here. I called before I came, asking the price for rabies vaccine and heart worm. The lady told me about $90, I came today and told them only those two things the lady told me $166 6 months heart worm and $28 rabies. So I said no just the rabies vaccine that is it . She still try to test more vaccines. Anyway after the rabies shot she told me my total is $100.46 I asked why? She said u have office visit for $67.95. No one told me anything about it, I don’t care how much the office visit fee,but you can’t lie to your customers. She took my pets go inside 5 mins give her a shot and told me you have offices visit ? Are you kidding me. And personally never believed pets insurance plan with them too. Never works still need pay whatever u have to pay.

My dog was actually showing fear of getting in my truck after two visits to this site. Moving to Plano has been a great experience with the exception of dealing with either of the two locations here. The one on Park would not return my calls to schedule an appointment so I drive to the one on 75 and this happens….. Day 1 visit to get new home established and make wellness appointment with included with the program I’m on. No issues, in fact I was relieved- Until- i call to make follow up dental appointment and they tell me I need to wait 2-3 months. I ask why, I get out on hold 3 separate times for about 6-8 minutes only for the person to get back on the phone and literally repeat the same thing like a robot. Finally after nearly 30 minutes they agree to let me bring him in the following day at 7:15am Around 3pm after hearing nothing from them, I call them to get an update. Long story short he’s gonna have to be rescheduled. So he’s been in a crate all day with no food or water (because he drank water like I’ve never seen before) He pooped in the crate - obviously because no one was attentive to him and they barely cleaned the poop off of him and he stinks when getting in the car. So this morning I’m taking him to get cleaned and guess what- he doesn’t want to get into my truck- he’s shaking and visibly nervous. A 90 lb Catahoula not a 5 lb chihuahua - He doesn’t get scared to go places. I’m so frustrated with Banfield right now that I want to cancel my membership that I’ve had for almost 4 years. Nearly $4K worth of payments to have my dog who is a family member to us treated this way. It is absolutely unacceptable.

Friendly and helpful staff. Would strongly reccomend them over private vets - they do a really good job of onjectively explaining all the options and also trying to save you money by avoiding unnecessary treatments. I assume that's because the vets are salaried by Banfield and don't make commission like private vets.
