How to Save Money at CanyonVet New Braunfels
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Farris and her team are remarkable. We recently rescued a puppy that was very sick. Dr. Farris was very honest and up front with what was going on with our sweet boy, so that we could make an educated decision. We decided to go ahead with the plan of care she laid out. With the help of her team and Tango our sweet boy is doing well. They called to follow up the next 2 days. We would highly recommend Dr. Farris and her team.

This place is awesome. From the time you walk in the receptionists are welcoming. They are also very patient when I was trying to use my Zoetis rewards. They make you feel very comfortable. Dr Newton is totally awesome. He comes in and immediately talks to my babies. He makes you feel like family and my babies adore him. He is very knowledgeable and breaks things down so an actual person can understand. He is very personable and my boys love him. Kirsten was my technician and she is amazing. She always takes care of my babies. You can tell they love pets and I highly recommend this place if you want the best care for your babies.

I cannot express how grateful I am for the entire team at Canyon Vet NB! The vets and technicians are all incredibly welcoming, they give your pets so much love even during a simple wellness check, and they take as much time as needed to explain options, conditions, medications, and whatever else your pet needs. Highly recommend this team!

We have been with this vet clinic for 10 years, 3 dogs. My oldest dog is in a lot of pain. We would really like to keep him on pain meds for comfort. The clinic refuses to give us a RX for more pain meds without checking liver and kidney enzymes. I agreed to move to a pain med that is more gentile on these organs, knowing that the medication would be more expensive. They charged us $250 for a medication that is $150 online and at other vet clinics, that is double the price. I contacted the clinic and said there must be some mistake. Perhaps they accidentally charged us for 60 pills, not 30? Nope, they said that is what their clinic charges. Bummer. I used to love this clinic. I really thought they cared about the animals, not so much about the money. I have read so many reviews about their overcharging for tech visits. They should really look into what they charge for services. They are the most expensive clinic around, and they just lost 3 patients.

My dog Lola had very painful ears and kept shaking her head. I live in Converse and none of the local vets could get her in. I called CanyonVet New Braunfels after calling so many others, and luckily they were able to offer me an urgent care appointment. All of the staff members were very kind and professional, they even offered Lola and I some water while we waited to see the doctor. My girl is comfortable and doing so much better now. They also found that she has a broken tooth, which I never suspected! I signed up for their Thrive Plus membership to save some money but it wasn't linking to my account, so Savannah the practice manager helped me figure it out. She was very sweet and happy to help. After the wonderful experience I had, I decided it's worth the drive to make them my regular vet from now on.
