How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Hospital of Midlothian
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our urgent care vet called this clinic before we arrived. Their team knew who we were when we arrived, greeted us, and took our pet back right away to ensure she got the best care. The team answered all of our questions, the vet was very knowledgeable and caring. Service was very prompt, we were not kept waiting. When we called to get updates, they were quick to respond. They even texted photos and updates overnight so we would know our pet was okay. The front desk team was amazing. We shared that we were having to obtain a hotel to be able to stay close in case our pet took a turn for the worse throughout the night. They were more than accommodating, offering cords and chargers for our cell phones because we were from out of town and we're not prepared for this visit. I cannot stress enough how amazing they all are! We have recommended this clinic to many friends already. Beyond excellent ! Thank you all so much for helping to save our beloved pup Lola!

The staff and doctors here are so nice, helpful, and understanding. I have brought in my special needs cat multiple times and they were just awesome. I brought my 17 year old Chihuahua in and again they were just awesome. We have been to multiple pet emergencies over the years and this one has to be the best.

Winston Churchill is home back to living his best life all thanks to this amazing hospital staff. If he could say something it would be he has no regrets and he would do it again tomorrow 😂 I can’t say enough about the wonderful staff of the Veterinary Emergency Hospital of Midlothian! ❤️their staff was absolutely incredible and kind, professional, thoughtful and kept me updated constantly on his condition. Even asked me what he liked to watch on tv which I told them COPS so they set up his own little TV so he would be able to relax totally. Dr. Fancher, Dr Marquez, and the most amazing tech Meredith and the sweet CSR’s working the front desk I’m so sorry I didn’t catch their names I was a little in a panic. The even bathed him for me ❤️🙏

My mom finally decided take my dog to the emergency vet after 12hrs, the vet thats 4 city away since the others were closed. I hoped to see if they could save him or end his suffering, unfortunately they couldn't find what's going on with him but did saw he was suffering terribly. The best situation for this was to put my dog down. I was devastated and my family too. After they told us how much it costed like $400 something, we only bought $200 with us because we left immediately when they said they can check the dog meaning they're open. The nice lady said she gonna tell her manager about the money issue and she came back saying the manager said it's free of charge. I was shocked and so was my mom, my mom insisted to still pay by giving the $200 and the other $200 from her next paycheck but they said it's okay don't worry. After that night, we buried our dog. That day was awful night but there was a positive outcome, it was out first time going to the vet, now we know what to expect in veterinary hospital so if we have a pet that needs urgent help, we'll bring our pet here. I give my biggest thanks to the lovely people who were there that night at the veterinary hospital. The least I can do is give a 5 star review. Also they sent a apologizing card to our house, I was surprised.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (If I could give this hospital 10 stars, I would!) I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible care my dog Stella received at Veterinary Emergency hospital. When I rushed in after she was bitten by our neighbor's dog, I was understandably panicked, but the staff immediately put me at ease. As soon as I walked in, they wasted no time and promptly took Stella to the back for treatment while I registered her. Alejandra and the rest of the staff were so kind and kept me updated throughout the entire process, which truly helped me stay calm during a stressful situation. Dr.was absolutely wonderful. They explained that the bite was very close to Stella's ligaments but reassured me that they could stitch her up. I appreciated how thorough they were in going over her medications and what to expect the following day. The compassion and care the entire team showed were evident in every interaction. They even helped me gently place Stella in the back seat of my car when it was time to go home. It’s clear that they truly care about the animals they treat. Thank you so much to everyone for taking such amazing care of Stella. I am forever grateful for your kindness and expertise!
