How to Save Money at Fix West Texas

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

APATHETIC, SHADY, and UNTRUSTWORTHY PLACE My roommate signed a release form for a kitten he found. We were taking care of her, paid for the shots & exam. When he went to them a week later for booster shots, they said that they were going to take her, without any warning. We were fostering her in the mean time. I wasn't able to say good bye, they didn’t inform us that they were going to take her after the booster shots, especially since she could've stayed with us instead of in a cage for a couple of days to recover from surgery. They also had him pay for the spay. Shortly after posting the review my roommate told me they would give her back if I took down the review. After reading some pretty horrific reviews about this place, I agreed cause I didn’t want them to perform surgery on her, because they seemed untrustworthy. They ended up doing the surgery without us knowing and released her to us after… luckily everything went fine, I say luckily cause I really don’t trust them after both my experience and after reading the reviews and off putting & inaccurate responses from the owner. So disappointed & even horrified about how this place handles things, so unprofessional.

Got our kitten from here freshly spayed about a month ago, beautiful black kitten. Never had a kitten that young before and they are always great at communicating when I have questions or concerns. Love the vibe of these people and they all seem to love what they do. Karen is wonderful at getting back to you in a timely matter and is a very nice lady.

This is Ollie we took him to get neutered today and that was it! He was only supposed to get neutered! We went to go get him from fix west Texas and they nonchalantly said sorry we chopped his ear! We were thinking it was going to be a little bit of his ear! Not half of his ear! Apparently they do this if it’s a stray cat! We did get him from a shelter but he’s definitely not a stray he has a loving home so I don’t understand why they would do this! Sounds like a medical mistake to me!

They do great work! And if you need a vet clinic to work with you on the prices of necessary services this is probably the place for you! They usually have a cart out front of misc items for pet care and toys too! My only issue is a feel like some of the staff is less then personable. Today the girl at the counter failed to microchip my cat twice and just overall made the situation unpleasant with her attitude and customer service skills. I think it’s a great place to go if you don’t have to go in and speak to some of the people working there. But that’s not to say all the staff is that way, several of the other people I spoke to today were very kind and gentle with my pet.

Chopshop alleyway, rude, condescending, and so much more. We were trying to be responsible pet owners, and have our cats fixed. They were stray rescues, and now live indoors, so we filled out the form for strays. When we went in to drop off, they informed us part of the process would be cutting their ear off which we did not want. We would have been fine with everything else, I just don't want my cats butchered. Needless to say we did not trust them, didn't leave our cats, and will never give a good review or recommendation. Make sure to read the reviews, the negative ones are not far off....Karen I know you'll see this. Have the day you deserve.
