How to Save Money at Thrive Pet Healthcare Mesquite Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I brought my chi-weenie in because she wasn’t feeling well. She was 9 did blood work and X-rays and she was full of cancer. They gave us a room with her for my kids and granddaughter to say their goodbyes! The staff made the transition incredibly amazing! Thank you for your kindness! They will be the only place I go when my dogs need to cross the rainbow 🌈 🐕

We had a late night emergency visit on September 15, 2023 with our fur baby, Autumn. Sadly, we weren’t able to come back home with her but we’re glad we chose this clinic to bring her to, they made sure she was a top priority and she was made comfortable throughout every stage. They were compassionate and made sure to break down every step and look at every option with us. Even when we were a mess in tears they gave us moments to breath and process everything while also answering our questions without judgement when large or small vet medical terminology stumped us as we asked for further details. Front desk staff and Dr. Chambers were absolutely incredible. They honestly were such a big part in helping us process the news, carrying out the next steps with us with such patience (even when it required them repeating themselves because of our shock) and gave us a last gift in being able to spend those last extra long moments with our Autumn before she crossed the rainbow bridge. If anyone needs assurance in needing to know if this would be the best clinic for your fur baby I hope this helps. I hope this lets you know this clinic will do their absolute best to ensure your fur baby is taken care of and finds the emergency care they need.

My cat had kittens and several days after she still looked pregnant so I took her in, had an ultrasound done and all is well, she's just fat! The vet even took a look at the babies, discussed the plan of care and what we should do. I know that having to take a pet to urgent care is generally a stressful situation, but this place? Made me feel right at home, eased my concerns and they are SO FRIENDLY!!! All my pets urgent care needs will be handled here.

If I could give Thrive more stars I would. On a Saturday, my miniature dachshund ate an excessive amount of pepperoni was vomiting and having intensive muscle tremors. I was frantically looking for a vet to get her into, however everywhere else was either already done with care giving for the day, closed or had some other reason for not being able to see us. At 11:50 I left Thrive a message to schedule a visit (they don’t open till 12 on the weekends) within 4 minutes the receptionist had called back not only telling me they could see us right away but in my message she could not hear the last 2 digits of my phone number. She had been trying was several possible phone numbers to reach out to me. She went above and beyond to contact us in a time of panic and need. From the receptionist, to the nurse, to the Dr. and even a generous frequent customer (who secretly paid some of my bill. Wherever and whoever you are thank you and you are an angel) my dog and I were given the time, attention, care and comfort needed. This facility is reliable, prompt, and full of amazing people. Your pet deserves a place like this!
