How to Save Money at Live Oak Animal Hospital South
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Well we arrived to a nice modern facility. The staff was very friendly. Prices were manageable and seemed fair. The Veterinarian was very knowledgeable. Dr.Wolf took the time to explain different paths we may take . She explained possible outcomes. She was very detailed in her explanations. Also she was very happy to answer any questions about all aspects of the visit. We got a clear picture of what to expect from the current situation to our desired point of health. Medication, it's use and proper administration was explained very clearly. This visit was approximately an hour and a half. This was for a new patient visit. So we feel this period was timely and expected. Our cat had a procedure at another facility and was exhibiting concerning signs (not associated with the procedure). Since the previous facility wasn't a full service Vet. Live Oak Animal Hospital South was able to get our Mekal in quickly. We were very happy with our experience and highly recommend them.

Bravo to Live Oak South for their awesome tech/employee PEGGY! She was super helpful, very attentive and so so sweet! My golden retriever is a big scary cat at the vet and she made the visit a pleasant experience, Dr. Ashley Barney was very professional and patient with my scared pup! My dog is overweight and Peggy helped with recommendations to get the correct medications for him.Thank you both ladies! I would absolutely recommend this facility for your pet needs!

I’ve been so impressed by this office. Everyone I’ve encountered is so courteous and helpful. I have a crazy work schedule sometimes and they have always been flexible and accommodating. Their prices are fair and the doctors have been great about being transparent about what is likely needed or not necessary when it comes to a supporting diagnosis. Refilling prescriptions is done in a very timely manner. They saved my rescue puppy who had parvo and were so quick to get her in and treated, and I switched my other dog over to their care. Thank you for what you do!

The best place to take your pet whether healthy or end of life. Staff was beyond caring and compassionate. Extremely professional whether on the phone or in person. When my dog passed they let me stay in the room for as long as i wanted with him--which was a while! And on top of that they sent me a sympathy card stating a donation had been made in my dog's name to Lubbock Challenger Little League--which brought me to tears again! Forever grateful!

I am sharing this review on behalf of my sister who recently suffered the loss of her dear Koda last week. She presented to Live Oak South as an emergency patient when they opened and after she was given options all of which ultimately resulted in having to let her fur baby go, she said her good byes and final kisses with him. The vet that helped her and Koda was wonderful and gentle during the discussions. As she reflected with my parents, who were also present for support they wanted to share some feedback on what might help make future patients and their families more comfortable, after reminiscing on our folks prior pup's loss. Koda wasn't given a sedative prior to euthanasia to help calm his anxiousness. In our prior experience, our pup was given a sedative and they were left to comfort him prior to the euthanasia injection of which seemed to make it more compassionate. A candle was lit in the lobby with a sign that asked other patrons for their patience as someone was saying good bye to their loved one. There was a different entrance/exit for them to go through so that they didn't have to walk thru the lobby, distraught while being a spectacle of everyone waiting with their pets. Overall, despite the circumstances, our experience was good but it could've been a bit easier.
