How to Save Money at West Loop Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have taken both my guinea pig and my dog here, and have had a very good expirence each time. My sweet piggy had become very sick and no small animal vets were at the emergency vet over the weekend, but they got me in here as early as they could Monday morning. He was beyond help, but they made him comfortable and even made stamps of his little tiny paw prints for me to keep🙏🏻❤️🩹 They even followed up via email to make sure I was okay, and told me they woukd check up my other piggy if I was worried about him too. When I took my dog in for an awful allergic reaction, they were so gentle with him and got his wounds cleaned up, and gave me a lot of good advice on how to treat him and prevent him from having it happen again. He is avery special, very dramtic little guy, but I think even he knew that the vet and the techs were there to help him because he warmed up to them very quickly which he doesnt normally do😅 They are always willing to answer any questions or send over care guides and additional info, not to mention their pricing seems very fair. I went in assuming I'd pay at least 400/500 dollars on my dogs wound care, meds, flea treatment, etc, but it ended up only being a little under $300. I am definitely going to continue taking my animals here, and I would recommend this place to anyone! Very professional while also being very kind and understanding.

Staff are so friendly and helpful, and make you feel like family. Dr. Howard is the best! Our little pooch is usually very finicky around new people, but she was perfectly behaved around everyone here. Highly recommend!

Absolutely the BEST. Dr. Howard has been with my girls since they were puppies. My girls are weary with most men but they LOVE him! He has always cared for my girls like they are his own. When Millie was having booty issues he ALWAYS took me seriously, we ended up having to do a risky surgery, but I knew she was in great hands and she has done great ever since! Dr. Lagutchik is the absolute sweetest and is always ready to listen to my concerns with my girls. I feel like I can tell her anything and she will be straight forward with me with complete honesty for my girls. Dr. Flanagan was with me and my mom when we had to put our old cat down, she made the experience comfortable for all of us. When Dr. Howard and Dr Lagutchik were out, Millie had been sick and we saw Dr. Flanagan. She went over Millie’s records and listened to everything I had to say about her sickness. Because she listened to everything I had to say she prescribed all the right meds and she has been doing so much better. Needless to say, West Loop has the BEST Veterinarians. My girls and I will forever be grateful to have such great Vets! I also need to say the front desk ALWAYS makes you feel welcome! Kayla always has a smile on her face and ready to greet anyone that walks in through the door even when it’s bright in early and I’m waiting for them to open! I love when she picks up the phone or even answers my emails in a timely manner! She is so detailed and I love that! Kimberly is great too! She is so helpful over the phone with any questions and explains things very well even when I have a million questions to ask! I’ve loved how they keep Kayla and Kimberly around! That always makes me feel more comfortable whether I’m calling, emailing, or coming inside seeing a familiar face over multiple years! My girls haven’t had a single vet tech that they have barked at either. (My girls like to let me know when they don’t like certain company). They always seem to be gentle with my girls and give them affection while doing what they need to do. I can’t thank West Loop enough for being my Vet and always going above and beyond! They will always be my fur babies doctors! Ever since they were puppies they like getting on the window seal and posing for photos when they are at the doctor! 🤣🐾🐶

Very kind people here. I didn't even know they existed but I am glad they do, they did a respectful solid for a seriously wounded critter. I do not know them, cannot endorce their work but as humans they were kind, respectful and understanding of an unfortunate situation for a poor turtle. They did a great job and for that they now have my respect!!!!

Dr. Owens saved my cat's life! His staff is so kind, and they went above and beyond to take care of Gregory while he was sick and followed up with him twice to make sure he recovered okay. I wouldn't take him anywhere else.
