How to Save Money at The Vet on 4th

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give a zero star review I would. All they try to do is make you spend an extra grand on shots and things we don’t need. Oh yeah, my kitten also died under their “care” after they told us nothing was wrong with him… multiple times. Once they finally begrudgingly took him in they gave him the equivalent of adult cat care and let him suffer and die there. He was barely six weeks old. They’re all about money and looking as high class as possible. Never do your business here! Go to the Animal Protection League! They are so kind, loving, and not comically overpriced. Edit before Mr Owner throws a tantrum for not getting his snack at break time: my name will not be in your system, my mother covered all of the attempted care and work for me, we sadly know exactly how he looked when and where he passed, the ladies upfront were so kind however the technicians couldn’t care less about their jobs or pets they care for. I have accompanied many visits and can speak on my own accounts of this terrible place.

It will be forever known as the animal killer . My dog would have been of saved if they would have listened to me . I told them twice he was laying down funny like stiff and weird. Even called them at night cause I knew it wasn’t right . If I had taken my dog to any other vet he would be alive right now . I will never speak good of this place they don’t care about animals if they did their actions would prove it . Please love your pet enough to go seek help elsewhere. Choosing them is like choosing death for your animal . The lady dr I told her not once but twice ! I’m not even a vet and I knew something was wrong but she didn’t ? Does that not seem odd to you ! Please don’t choose this place . I wouldn’t be crying now if I had choose another place .

We love the attention and care that our two Labradoodles get from the moment they walk in the door. They are open, honest, take time, and patiently answer all our questions. The vet our boys had seen since they were puppies refused to see one of our boys during an emergency situation even though she was going to be open for another 1 1/2 hours. She suggested that we take him to The Vet on 4th, which made us furious. But now, we're so glad that she did. They welcomed us with open arms even though we'd never seen them. They professionally assessed the situation quickly and communicated with us every step of the way to get our boy on the road to recovery. We never returned to our old vet. The Vet on 4th always has very clean and neat facilities. They always discuss costs, options, and answer our questions beforehand. We always feel confident that our dogs are receiving the best quality care and highly recommend them.

Staff was very kind with my boy. His primary care vet did not carry the K9 influenza shot. He is 105 pounds and reactive. Although I could tell staff was a little nervous of him they still did a great job. We will see everyone next year for his booster shot :)

The staff is very friendly and the facility is beautiful. They always take great care of our little Buzz and really try to help if he is not feeling his best. While he isn’t always so crazy about coming to the vet, he is met with love which would make any pet parent proud. We love that they also offer emergency after hours when needed.
