How to Save Money at Healthy Paws Veterinary Center
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We recently had to say goodbye to our Dog Cobalt. The staff were so kind and considerate to me and my wife at this most difficult time. They went above and beyond, gave love to our sweet boy in his final moments and made him as comfortable as possible. Thankyou Healthy Paws for everything you guys did for our family we are extremely grateful for the kindness you all have shown us.

My dad and I have been taking our family dogs here since 2020, the vet has always been kind and dependable. I've recommended this vet to friends multiple times. But as of late, the boarding service is completely horrible and unacceptable. Our dogs are small (20lbs and less) and we boarded them a few months ago for five days and they were returned with feces stuck to their butts. We gave the benefit of the doubt and bathed the dogs when we came home (people get busy, honest mistake, maybe they didn't notice, etc.). The past weekend the dogs were boarded again from Friday to Monday. (Couldn't pick up on Sunday because they're closed). Again, both dogs had feces caked to their behinds. Fully visible when they are standing. But this time layers of feces was stuck to their leg fur and caked into their paw pads. In the bath it rinsed out of their ear fur and off their bellies as if they had been left to sit/stand/lay in it all weekend. One of our dogs is typically a little anxious, though non-aggressive (senior dog), when out of the home so a call about his lessened eating is not too out of the ordinary. However, since boarding here our other calm dog is showing signs of stress as well. I would be too if I was left in my own potty for days on end! It was like bringing home strays! Both of them stressed and dirty and thirsty as if no one had taken good care of them in days. So disappointing and devastating to see your loved pups in this condition after spending hundreds of dollars thinking you were leaving them in capable and caring hands. I cannot stomach the thought of bringing them here ever again. Your pets deserve better and so do ours, we're going somewhere else.

I have been going to Healthy Paws since I moved here in 2022 and my Dog was regularly groomed here as well. About 3 weeks ago my dog who was only two began to throw up constantly. I brought him in and the doctor advised X rays or we could try medication. I took the medication route and took her advice to if it got worse go to the ER. That night I went to the ER to ensure there was no blockage and to have blood work done. All of his blood work came back " Good" and there was no blockage. To avoid more ER fees I went back to the vet again and they continued to push more medication that did not fix the issue. I called numerous times and they would say hold him up to feed, give the medication and I did it ALL.I finally was able to get a call back from a doctor who stated all blood work was good but the white blood cell levels were higher than the ER visit which I did not even know they were high. She did not even ask me to come in to get him an antibiotic. She said she would speak to a specialist on Friday April 12th to see what they suggest. Come to find out she never called the specialist that day. I called Saturday because he was getting worse and they said they could not see him they were too busy. I rushed him all the way to the ER in Dallas and he passed away due to an infection that could have been prevented if he was given an antibiotic. I am devastated and to make it worse the vet has not even contacted me to see how I am or ask how he was doing. $4,000.00 later and given a ton of medication he did not need I am heart broken he was only two. I usually do not leave reviews like this but they had NO idea how to help my dog, they avoided ever thing I said and continued to fix him with medication for throwing up when I told them it is not working. I am heart broken and truly do not want anyone to feel the pain I did. I could understand if I did not speak up, call, come in multiple times but I was ignored and now I lost my pet. Worse experience I have ever had.

Had a great experience here! I brought my dog here for the first time yesterday just because they opened the earliest and were the first one I could call after I noticed weird allergy related issues with my dog. They got me in for a same day appointment and were very kind and affordable. My dog has seen plenty of vets for allergy issues and every time, the exam alone cost $hundreds and the treatment they recommend is just impossibly expensive. When I can’t pay for the meds, the other vets usually list off too many alternatives I can try to keep count of before showing me to the door. Yesterday was the first time I had an in-depth conversation about my dogs allergies with a real vet. They made me feel very comfortable to ask the many, many questions I’ve had and answered very thoroughly. They were also so patient and kind with my dog, every vet she’s seen has told me she snaps and growls and needs to be muzzled but the staff at healthy paws praised her for being such a good, sweet girl. I figured other vets being kind of rough with her and ignoring her cries and anxiety was just them being professional or something but it makes sense that once she’s treated with actual respect and care her extreme anxiety at the vet goes away. On top of all of that they’re the most affordable vet I’ve been to, at least for allergy injections. Her exam (which was much more in-depth than the glance at her scabs from itching other vets do) was under $70 and the price for the same injections I’ve been offered were half or even 1/3 the price I’ve been offered from other vets around little elm/ frisco! I had to check if it was the same type of medicine I couldn’t believe how much cheaper it was. All in all, this was the best vet experience me or my dog have had and I appreciate everything they did for us!
