How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give this place a zero I would. The amount of price gouging that happened at this place is ridiculous. I came in today on a scheduled visit for four dogs. I’m mearly needed to get two of the dogs hips checked and their nails Trimmed. After waiting an hour and 15 minutes with no one telling me what’s going on, I finally got seen and I said I don’t have time for the dogs hips to get checked so just asked to get their nails trimmed. FOr just the nail trim they wanted $76 for each dog. Then with the other two dogs, I merely had to get their heat worm medicine that cost $20 online but you can’t get it without having the dogs weighed. They charged me $77 for the medication. I had them print out my vet records, and I will never be back again. I recommend going any other place than this. The weight coupled with the extremely high price gouging makes it so I will never come back to a Petco or Vetco ever again.

I’m deeply disappointed with my experience at Petco/Vetco Total Care in League City, Tx. As a pet owner, I expect a standard of care that includes compassion and friendliness, especially for my very elderly dog. Unfortunately, our visit fell short of these expectations. During our visit, a technician (Danielle) tripled my dog’s injection dosage without any explanation. Thankfully, I caught the error on the consent form before it was administered. She attempted to tell me that the dosage had changed. After some back-and-forth, she finally admitted it was a mistake, but still no apology was offered. An overdose of this size could have been devastating for my pet. I was left waiting for over an hour. They took my elderly dog from me and into a back room in order to administer her Librela injection and vaccines. Afterward, when home, my dog struggled to walk for nearly two days. It was clear that the experience had harmed her. I received a request to review my experience and expressed my concerns in writing, but while the manager did leave a phone message, I have been unable to reach her since, despite multiple attempts both by phone and on the website’s chat function. While I would consider bringing my dog back to this clinic, it would only be if I were scheduled with a different technician. I joined the Vital Care program and take her in monthly, so this was particularly disappointing. This was the first time I experienced such a lack of compassion at this clinic, and I hope no other pet owner has to go through something similar.

Wait time was reasonable, staff was knowledgeable. Brought my cat in to get his pink eye infection fixed. I just wish they would’ve asked me if I wanted ointment or drops, because my cat fights me badly to get the medicine in and I still haven’t been able to get it in since I left the clinic. Kinda makes it pointless.

I can’t say enough good things about this place! I had some very bad news about my Boxer and they were so sweet to her and very kind to me. Also, they are honest and won’t try to talk you into doing things that won’t help anyway. Thank you to the Dr and all the staff! Debbie & Blu

I had to put my beloved cat down due to her declining. She was 17 years old. The staff was compassionate and ready for us when we got there, we had an appointment. We were directed to an exam room where a nice fluffy blanket was laid out for her. We stayed with her during the process. I chose the mass cremation and received her paw print that I created a memorial with her picture. I appreciate the compassion, patience, and kindness that was provided to both my pet and myself. Thank you.
