How to Save Money at SNIP of Texas Spay/Neuter

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just want to say a big thank you to snip, yesterday I came in with my baby Tigger who was experiencing some pain and discomfort after being spayed the week prior, I was really worried about my girl because I had lost my boots two years ago and it was very hard. When I went in they reassured me that was going to be ok and got her in some inflammatory and antibiotics and I am happy to say that today she is already looking so much better. Thank you so much snip I know my girl is not nice to the vets but y'all did so Amazing being patient with her.

I have used SNIP several times over the years for several spay and neuters and wellness appointments when helping people who can’t afford pet care. They’ve always been affordable and able to get me in in a timely manner. I’ll continue using them for low cost needs!

I absolutely love this clinic, they're so kind and sweet and you can truly tell that their hearts bleed for animals. I've had 1 of my cats fixed through them and she had no problems. I took my new baby kitty to go get fixed today and although i'm an emotional mess, I just called and she's doing fantastic. I can't wait to have her back in my arms. 5 out of 5 stars for this clinic.

I let this go a year ago but after today I can't. A stray mom had her kittens in our shop so had ALL fixed at snip. The mom went back in heat so I called them, they said would run "test" to make sure, but if test came back no way, I would pay for test. I agreed. I made appointment for test and over heard a "wellness" doctor tell tech, she wasn't doing test, I needed to just take cat home and love her. Manager not there but called me back apologizing and I could bring her back in, which I did. Yes test was they missed something, so had to make another appointment for them to correct what they missed the first time. Driving an hour there and hour back multiple times, because I wanted to promote organizations like snip. Then today a new experience, If read by manager, check my file this and today's post are accurate. So today I brought in another stray (to get spayed) that just spent 2 months on my closed in porch raising her kittens getting treated like a queen (so NOT feral). I brought her in a small cat kennel, but because she I guess wasn't happy about it spat at them, I was told I would have to bring her back in a TRAP???? This call came in an hour and half after I dropped her off and drove an hour home. I did ask for manager to read my file on how many I had fixed there, donations I made, problems I had etc. guess it don't matter wanted me to go buy a TRAP? Bring her in a TRAP? Yes I made an appointment for her elsewhere and will take future business and donations elsewhere also. So if your pet is a little feisty you may want to consider an organization that has a transfer box, like the one I contacted today. UNREAL but still wish them well.

Absolutely worst experience I have ever had with getting a dog neutered. I have 4 other dogs and have never had any issues. I went in on Friday to get my dog Craig neutered. Friday I picked him up and his sac area was swollen to the size of a baseball. No one would listen to my concerns and sent me on my way saying it was normal. I called the very next day and made a follow up appointment as they recommended. The doctor looked at him for a total of 30 seconds and gave me antibiotics and told me to put him in a dog onesie. So I did that. They told me to come in the next Monday for another follow up. It is now Thursday and l am back in because his state has worsened to what you can not imagine. My appointment was at 3 and it is 3:45 and I have still not been seen. They tell me every time I come in that they do not have a doctor to stich him up or do basically anything for him. I have now spent over 300 at the affordable vet for what was supposed to be to be a basic procedure. If I could give 0 stars I would but because I can’t, here’s 1. Do not go here if you care about your animals
