How to Save Money at Banfield Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. McFee is awesome! She and her team made me and my dog Bailey feel really comfortable. She explained everything I needed to know about my pet’s care. I left feeling reassured. Thank you!

My short-haired cat and dog were first-time patients as we received a new patient coupon that deducted the cost of the initial exam. Although, I saved $100 per pet, the front desk girl insisted that I would need to drop my dog off, leave and return to pick up. She lied and said that my appointment was scheduled for a later time, however, I secured an appointment on the website and personally registered my information before going into the building. I wasn't confrontational because she assured me that I would receive services as a walk in even though i made an appointment. I was happy when the other front desk girl stepped up and directed me and my pet to exam room #1.

I'm in absolute shock the total disregard for my fur baby. We took our old English bulldog in for surgery, she was getting nurtured. After the surgery she herniated & ran a high fever of 104°. Instead of going back into surgery and fixing the fail stitches the vet opted to push her hernia back in & wrap her tightly hoping that would fix the issue. We had a follow-up apt soon after with the vet or so I thought. Upon arriving at the scheduled apt we were told the vet was in surgery and was unable to see our baby. We were giving a list of ER vets we could see. I was in shock! Totally floored by the lack of compassion & total disregard of our time but more importantly our pets well being. I would give this place zero stars if I could & I would never recommend anyone to bring their love ones here for care. My baby still needs help & I'm currently reaching out to a friend who's a vet at an ER in Pearland.

I have both of my puppies on the wellness plans here and have had 4 visits between the 2 of them all of which went so smoothly. When I had originally scheduled their first wellness appointments as per initial plan sign up requirements, I scheduled my German shepherd first and my husky second. My husband and I ended up deciding we should have our husky puppy seen first and our German shepherd puppy seen on the next day I had scheduled on the day of the first scheduled appointment. I called and they were easily able to switch the animals and no appointments got messed up in the process and got incredible treatment towards both my pup and I. At our German shepherd’s appointment they saw that our husky had a different vet than our shepherd so they made sure to put them both with the same vet which was awesome. Every appointment has been on time and the only “issue” I’ve ever had is the vet being glove deep in a dog having surgery but I was given the option to wait if I wanted but I didn’t feel the need to because their vet techs are just as knowledgeable and skilled as the vets so I felt confident only speaking with the vet tech. Super nice and courteous staff who called after using the chat service the night before to check on my puppy and see if he needed to be seen immediately and how he was doing after reviewing the issues brought up to the vet I chatted with.

So the pet insurance they offer is a complete rip off. You are better saving the monthly payment to get your pet services because it hardly actually pays for what you need. During the visit they are all sales based. Upsell upsell upsell. Its ridiculous. They try to use a guilt/fear based tactic to get you to spend more and more money. I regret using them, I regret spending my money on the useless insurance and way overpriced services they offer. Its a scam. They are greedy. Do they care about your pet? Possibly but its hard to tell with all the money hungry pitches disguised as care.
