How to Save Money at Underwood Animal Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I have brought my new puppy here twice. Showed up 10 minutes prior to my appointment times and each time waited over an hour past my appointment time to be seen. They were puppy visits and the doctor spent all of 7 minutes with me and dismissed concerns I had. She also failed to do a thorough exam and she missed a hernia that my dog had. They had trouble restraining my 10 pound puppy and had to poke her at least 6 times to give her the vaccine. Very frustrating to wait so long and feel like I’m being rushed out the door. My final straw was trying to get my dog some heart worm medication. They don’t carry the brand I want so told me to use the online pharmacy. I tried to order 6 months because it was half the price as ordering single doses and I got a rebate.Well the doctor declined it because my dogs weight “hasn’t plateaued” (they really loved saying this to me) even though they haven’t weighed my small breed dog in 6 weeks and have no idea about her weight gain. Me offering to bring my dog in for a weight check seemed to go right over their heads and “plateau” in weight was discussed again. So instead they wanted me to pay $17 per dose instead of $9, not get a rebate and not qualify for free shipping. When I asked for a script instead they told me there is a script fee. I have never had such a hard time trying to get some heart worm medication for my small breed dog who is still 10 pounds below the weight limit for the dose I’m trying to get at 7 months old. Just bad experiences all around from the wait time to the actual thoroughness and from the vet and training experience of the staff. I 10/10 would recommend going somewhere else. *I’m usually not so cold in my bad reviews. I actually used to work here back when Dr. Medford ran the place and have been a vet tech for over a decade so I usually give the benefit of the doubt as I know how hectic things can be. I took all of this into account to before posting but the waiting room and exam rooms were never even close to full the times I went. Their care towards my dog and wait times were totally unacceptable.

Just wanted to give a shout out to their employee Becky. She was very helpful and went the extra mile to assist me in finding another clinic that took Care Credit for Nala. So glad there are still friendly people out there. Thanks Becky

Great customer service. Both doctors and staff listen to detail and examined my dog very thoroughly. I will definitely be back with all of my animals.

Have been using this clinic for 10 years. Always prompt, friendly and ready to help. Can't say my dog appreciates his visits, though!

Only place that would take my dog on a Saturday. Everyone in Baytown said they don't do new dogs on the weekend. This place made me an appointment and took care of my baby. He doesn't trust easy but they made him feel loved. He only likes the cheese they gave him no other treats 😂. However thank y'all for taking care of my baby. He is feeling alot better.
