How to Save Money at VCA Kingwood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Jewell & the rest of the staff are all amazing! Our diabetic dog Tillie had so much going on and with the help of Kingwood VCA we were able to manage her chronic illnesses very well and extend her life. I've seen dozens of vets and nobody has came close to the care my dog received here. They treat your dogs as if they would their own and genuinely care. Would highly recommend bringing your little family member here. To the VCA Staff, Thank you all for everything you've done for Tillie! She was a happy girl with the help of VCA, we wouldn't have been able to provide her such a great life without you guys! Forever grateful for each one of you. -Alexis and Tashawn

A huge thank you to Dr. Jones and her team. I took my tabbie in because she was coughing up blood. I’d taken her elsewhere the night before and spent a lot of money, was met with resistance, little patience, and at the end of the day when the card was ran I saw no improvement in her health. I called VCA and the receptionist was very nice and asked me to come in right away as a walkin. I did so and after checking in they were able to take us back within 6 minutes of my arrival. Dr. Jones laid out all of my options and reassured me that while expensive surgery was a possibility, there are other potentially cost effective options should the imaging suggest them. Dr. Jones also assured that if she did need surgery she could ensure it would be done that day which was a relief. My tabbie was taken in around 12pm after sedation for the x-ray and I received a call from Dr. Jones 40 minutes later with the stat results ready and her plan of action prepared. After a nausea injection, under the skin fluids, a sucrose medication and some easier to digest food, my cat is eating again, using her litter box normally and is back to her playful self. I lost my dog in June of last year and so I am eternally grateful that Dr. Jones showed compassion, patience, understanding and was able to help my tabbie recover. You can tell she is passionate about her work and I am glad I have found a place I trust with my pets’ care.

I took my brother’s family’s beloved dog to VCA because the normal vet couldn’t fit me in for an emergency that they had already seen us for twice. A close friend recommended VCA so I called and they fit us right in. Dr. Jewel and the team were all amazing…. From the front desk staff to the vet techs. Their love for animals was so evident. Especially Dr. Jewell… with every gentle touch and loving word he gave to my family’s dog yesterday. He and his team made an extremely difficult decision and situation as peaceful and kind as possible. The manner in which he treated the dog and I was amazing and I will be switching to VCA for my dog and highly recommend them to everyone.

I am so grateful for Dr. Burlone, Dr. Jones, and the whole team at VCA Kingwood. I’ve been taking my two dogs here since 2022, and we have always been met with kindness and professionalism. We haven’t had any big emergencies, but I have needed a “work-in appointment” because my young husky ate something he shouldn’t have — They made time for my dog, answered my questions, and made me feel supported. Our yearly appointments have been seamless, the office and exam rooms are always clean, and the staff is very kind to my dogs. Thank you to everyone at VCA for taking great care of my dogs!

WOW!!! I cannot always say that we have excellent experiences at Veterinarian offices but today was absolutely wonderful. We just relocated to Houston from Oregon and our poochies were patients at a VCA there. They were the best Veterinarians we’ve ever had. I was so worried that no other Vet could be as wonderful (our main Vet and I embraced and cried together when I told her we were moving, that’s how amazing they are). VCA Kingwood definitely exceeded my expectations. Dr Jones is so kind and compassionate and obviously a huge animal lover and advocate, and she is everything you could ask for in a Veterinarian. All of the Vet techs and office staff were so professional and so lovely, and they had us in and out so quickly. I was so sad to leave our Oregon VCA but I am so happy that I found VCA Kingwood. I 100% trust them with my most precious babies and would recommend to anyone looking for an experienced, trustworthy, compassionate Veterinarian office for their furry children.
