How to Save Money at Animal Emergency Center of Killeen
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

At around 830pm our munchkin cat Linda sustained an injury that aggravating a tumor in our beloved cats mouth causing her tumor to begin bleeding. After a short phone conversation with a very polite receptionist we were told to come in to have her evaluated. After virtually no wait, the technician began her initial evaluation and escorted Linda back to see the Doctor. The Doctor came back with Linda and after discussing every possible option with us patiently and in the kindest possible way she left our family with our cat to discuss our options with no expectation of timelines. Unfortunately, we came to the conclusion to the prevent further suffering for Linda we would have to send her over the rainbow bridge. After we informed the doctor of our intentions, she gently explained how the procedure would go and what we should expect. After giving us as much time as we needed with our beloved friend of ten years as we needed, the doctor humanely ended Linda’s suffering. The kindness, patience, and compassion of the entire staff from the moment they took our phone call to the moment we collected Linda’s remains was perfect, and made one of the hardest days of our lives a little easier. I would recommend this establishment to anyone whose pets are in need. Thank you all for your kindness. We will not forget it.

We made a couple trips in the last few months for our English Bulldog Lucas. We got him at 7 weeks old and he was 9 and 4 months when we had to let him go. It was the most difficult decision I think we’ve had to make to date. Dr. Nicholson was great both times we were there (3 months apart). She remembered Lucas and she remembered us. She tried everything she could for a geriatric English Bulldog this visit, but she took the best care of him both times. The front desk staff and the vet techs were also amazing. I wish I could remember your names. Y’all know who you are and we appreciate your kindness so much! They were extremely caring and didn’t rush us and were sympathetic to our needs. Our beautiful boy left us on a Wednesday morning and we brought his ashes home on Saturday. Considering how terrible it was to let him go, I couldn’t be happier and more thankful for the people who helped us through it. Their patience and caring made it an easier experience. We received a condolence card in the mail today and while it made us cry, we appreciate the love and effort. Thank you all for your kindness. Also, Cherished Memories deserves the highest of praise. Everything was beautifully done. We got our daughter a chain and she wears the other half of the charm that is with Lucas. Thank you all. Love, The Wade Family

Saturday March 11th I had to make the difficult decision to euthanize my precious chiweenie Faith, who I have had for the past 11 years due to kidney failure. This was very hard for me, but I will have to say this clinic made it a little bit easier to cope with the devastation I was feeling that day. I had her cremated and picked up her ashes today, and to my surprise they gave me a beautiful urn with Faith's name on it, a candle, and a nice card. There were other little gifts and messages offering their sympathy. I would recommend this emergency clinic to anyone that has a very sick animal, everything they did was done with compassion. Thank you to all of the great people that helped me get through such a hard day in my life. And thank you to all of you that treated Faith with so much kindness I will always be 🙏 grateful.
