How to Save Money at O'Connor Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I adopted my dog Ollie from DFW humane society, while Ollie was in the shelter he fell ill with bloat and stomach fluid buildup so the shelter took him here. Once I adopted him and saw the notes from the shelter of DR. kangs findings there was no question this is the vet I needed to use. He had Ollie on a prescription diet before I came into the picture. From what everyone says the food has helped him so much Upon arrival I was so surprised that dr. Kang remembered seeing Ollie as a patient, the whole reason I picked this office was because they would be familiar with his medical treatment and I was definitely surprised when he walked in and was familiar with who he saw! So that was nice! I felt so relieved especially since his dogfood is based on vet approval when buying online and in stores so I knew I wouldn’t have any problems getting what Ollie needed. The service here is definitely more than 5 stars! I made such a good decision to bring my Ollie here. I love this place.

Recently had our 8 y/o cats teeth cleaned at O’Connor Animal Hospital. Truly a great experience and no complications. The doctor is knowledgeable and it’s clear he has been in practice for many years with how smooth things run. On top of this, prices with them are very good for the services provided. Worth going here and grateful to have found this vet!

This review is not so much for O Connor animal hospital as a whole, but more so a particular vet tech, namely Tiffany and any other tech who may have felt the same. Ma'am whether you feel as though my dog was too much for you to handle, your comments were not warranted nor necessary. To say my dog was a brat, was very unprofessional and childish especially at your age and status.(he nor his owner appreciated those kind words) Now I have been to O'Connor Pet Hospital and Dr.Kangs on numerous occasions since 2022 and have never once had to muzzle my dog for any reason, so I find it hard to believe that it was needed today. First and foremost just because a dog/man is strong, that does not equate to them being aggressive. Secondly "brat" and any other labels or name calling should be held to a minimum especially while the patient is in the room. If you aren't able to handle some of the animals that come in there then maybe try getting in the gym a bit, working on upper body and maybe core strength. Be more professional and work on your verbal communication skills. (I saw you walked off, hopefully it was to do some e-learning) I'm sure O'Connor Animal handles a variety of animals of different weights and sizes. So please do better, for the sake of your next "big" customer/patient. Thank you. To anyone who knows my dog, knows that he is an angel. (Paws4Life)

I have been taking my animals to Dr. Kang for almost 15 years now. He has to be one of the hardest working Veterinarians in DFW. Service has always been fantastic and I cannot imagine going anywhere else!

I took my husky in for a bad hot spot. The doctor and staff were welcoming and quickly got me in on the same day. The doctor gave my boy an antibiotic shot and went over the medications to give to him. The cost of the visit and medication was reasonable and I am very happy with the visit!
