How to Save Money at Mission Bend Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff is so nice and caring! We brought out pup there because she wasn't feeling well. The vet got her all better! I highly recommend to bring your pet here

Been coming here for years but it's not that great of a place anymore. Unorganized and unprofessional. I had a 5pm appt and was in time. Same time I walk in there is 5 other pets walking in the door. My dog is not used to being around other pets so he kept barking. I guess that irritated them so they asked me to go wait outside in my car. About 5:30 I got tired of waiting in the heat and asked how long was the wait. I was told they were backed up and only had 3 rooms that were filled already and a emergency earlier. So why didn't management have the later appts canceled or rescheduled? Mind you they close at 6 so how was he going to fit in all 6 pets waiting? Being a neighbor place I wanted to support but when you make me wait outside in the heat because of barking and your business is pets I will never support you again or recommend you to a soul!

Been coming here for years. Never really had an issue waiting and it used to be 10-15 min at most. But lately they make you wait more than 30 minutes so what is the point of having an appointment? My appointment was at 5pm. And it’s currently 5:45 pm and I’m still waiting. No emergencies either. I think they just have too many patients and cannot manage their time effectively because majority of the clients have appointments as well. Just be prepared to wait and the appointment time is more of a suggestion time of arrival. The vet is knowledgeable and nice but overall management of time is needed to accommodate their clients and be respectful of everyone time. It’s a low cost clinic so they have lots of people. Just something to be aware of. Parking can be limited when it’s super busy here. Update: The other vet whose name i do not recall but older man. Really great manners. As someone who works in healthcare, it’s much appreciated when someone acknowledges the wait and not just that but took time to explain things to me. But still be prepared to wait

This place is incredible, the staff are all very friendly. They treat the animals with such care that allows you to trust the process. The doctors are very helpful and detail in explaining the procedures. Thank you for taking care of my Oreo.

I called to make an appointment. I was told that I could walk in but I would have to wait or I could make the appointment. I chose to make the appointment. I arrived early. I then waited over an hour. There were other people that were being taken care of but I believe they were walking. When I complained I was told that they were professionals and I should not complain. I regret to say that my time is important I'm paying them for the fact that they went to school but they should have consideration for my time too I read your response. I do have consideration for you and your time. But I think that over an hour for an appointment that's scheduled is a little bit more than emergency walking in. But it's a good reply makes it appear that you care
