How to Save Money at Heights Veterinary Clinic - Northwest
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I did a new patient exam with my senior (14 yr old) who I wanted to establish with a nearby vet due to her health concerns. She's not the definition of a "cooperative patient" but they set her up for success with a towel scented with Adaptil and patience! They were able to clean her ears and do a pressure test on her eyes. Dr. Slack and tech John were both wonderful with her and very informative!

Absolutely amazing experience! I needed an urgent appointment and my regular place was booked so I came here. This is now our household's vet. Everyone was so caring, helpful and knowledge. Dr Yu personally called me with my pets test results and walked through it all in detail. Exceptional service and very reasonable prices.

My regular veterinarian couldn't set an appointment for my dog for 6 days when he had an ear infection and was in need of having them cleaned (because they're great, and in-demand), so I made an appointment at Heights Veterinary Clinic for my dog. It will be his first and last due to two reasons. First, because they mark up prices for medication and cleaning solution by 100% over retail. My vet doesn't engage in price-gouging, but they have no issue with doing so here. I've had experience with this practice when I had a cat, so when the vet tech (short-haired, quite young) left the products in the room with us after stepping out, I googled them and found out I was being rooked. Second, when the vet tech returned I politely declined purchasing the items and explained that I could get both of them for less than half the price they were charging. She said, "we have to make our money too". I replied that my savings would buy a big old bag of dog food and she responded with a deadpan, very snarky, "woo-hoo". That's not the way to treat a patient guardian or the situation at all. She shouldn't even be in examining rooms with them. We'll definitely not be returning and I'll strongly recommend against anyone wasting their hard-earned money there either. Your tech and the gouging blew it entirely, but the vet seemed very nice, aside from condoning price-gouging as many do. But not mine. Extra star for the vet's manner and advice.

Outstanding customer experience during a not so outstanding time. I unfortunately had to have my cat euthanized a couple of weeks ago. As a brand new customer cold calling, they made themselves available for us within 45 minutes on a Friday afternoon. From the time I arrived with my cat to the time I was in the room they prepared for him was less than 30 seconds. As someone who’s never been through this before, all members of the staff were compassionate, clear and concise with the procedure, and accommodating in every way possible. They can expect my return in the future as a result of the care and incredible service given during my experience.

I LOVED my experience here!! I have a ferret with adrenal disease, and my experience taking her here to be diagnosed and treated was so comforting! The girl at the front desk and the technician that we saw were very kind. Dr. Yu was so kind and informative, giving me clear details about the disease, my treatment options, and what would be best for my lil baby, answering all of my questions. I definitely felt that they really care, and I'm so happy I found them!
