How to Save Money at Heights Hospital for Animals
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Im sure all dogs hate going to the vet but we had a pretty good experience with our first vet visit :) There was a lot of care and everyone seemed that they wanted to provide the pets some great and positive experience! I was really shocked at how well my puppy did during our visit. She had a scary experience from our first vet visit at another vet clinic, (they tried grabbing her and she peed all over the place) so it was a pretty traumatizing experience for us both. So I was pleasantly surprised at the different approach my puppy received. She was not anxious and did not mind getting poked. They did not reach down to grab her but worked with her on the floor where she felt more comfortable. Overall, this place is great! Highly recommend

I love this vet! The doctors and techs are kind, loving, and caring. They took care of my little girl when she had heartworms and did a great job of bringing her back to health. I have also boarded my dog here and am very satisfied with their service. Highly recommend!

I brought my nervous cat in for behavior changes and Dr. Wen and her staff were very nice and knowledgeable! She called me the next morning to tell me my cat’s blood work results and I was able to pick up her Rx same day. Was also able to get a next-day appointment and office is easy to get ahold of. My particular bill was $300 for a physical and blood work which seems fair.

Being new to the area I was recommended this office. I brought my newly rehomed 7 month old puppy in for an exam and I was very impressed that I was given an appointment same day when I called the office. I was further impressed with the treatment and care given to my pup and to me. This was her first vet visit and I was still gaining her trust as her mom after less than 24 hours. It's safe to say both me and Fayth had a great experience and we both look forward to a lasting relationship. Glad I was recommended and will recommend.

I have been coming here a while and thought it was about time to give a strong review! In short, Dr. Riley is amazing. I know this business is very busy, but she somehow always makes me feel like I’m the only one in the building. She listens, answers questions thoughtfully, and gives pragmatic advice for when to consider the “more expensive thing” vs. when to “wait and see.” The office visit prices are here are higher than others in the area for sure (I believe about $70 for full exam), but prices for vaccines and meds are actually very much in line with Chewy / other retailers, and I have had a few bad experiences with the cheaper high-volume vets when problems were not fully resolved. One thing I really appreciate about Dr. Riley is that she’ll tell you when she feels strongly you should do something, and what you can afford to pick and choose on, even pointing out when to review insurance benefits first. She and the team are open about when it’s a good idea to use their online pharmacy (which I find super convenient) for important medication vs. when you can get other items (e.g. supplements) just as easily / cheaply other places. This transparency builds a lot of trust for me, let alone the quality of their care itself. In my pack, we have 3: a 14 year old with brain cancer, a 3 year old with genito-urinary issues, and a puppy with terrible allergies. Dr. Riley and team handle all these with ease and kindness. Not only does she find solutions, she is also attentive to the dogs (and to me and my reaction). Bedside manner as a vet has to be difficult since you have to mind the paws and the parents, and I am just always so impressed with how Dr. Riley handles things. The staff in the office too are professional, well trained, and extremely friendly. Other nice things I’ve noticed — the staff keep on time appointments, are great with follow-ups, and are also extremely accommodating about fitting us in when things pop up from time to time. They even helped us get our 3 dogs on the “same schedule” (vaccines), and they are great about making sure you understand how to administer medications. For one example of the level of service I’ve received here — there was one time where 1 of 3 dogs got a contagious illness, and I wasn’t sure if I needed to bring the other two just in case (whom she had just seen a few weeks before), or what I should do beyond separating them. I called and spoke with the staff to ask for help. Instead of a one-size-fits-all response, they took a note for Dr. Riley… and she actually called back personally to chat about it! She had great suggestions I hadn’t thought of and was very helpful. I just can’t say enough good things about this place. I won’t go anywhere else in Houston.
