How to Save Money at HEARTHSTONE ANIMAL CLINIC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Amazing amazing place. They take care of your furry family in the best way possible. Prices are extremely reasonable and they really do care about you and your pets. They don’t ever do extra things that aren’t needed. Thank you for such amazing service.

I’m writing this review heart broken. I took my dog into the vet on Saturday morning to be checked out because he had not been feeling well for about two weeks. He was lethargic. It started about 3 weeks ago when I took him to the dog Park. At first I thought it was because of heat exhaustion even tho I had him swim around the water to keep him cool. He came home and didn’t want to move and didn’t eat. By the end of that weekend he improved and seem to be his normal self. Then last week I noticed he was a little less energetic and saw that his stomach was a little bloated. He wasn’t eating much. He has always been a picky eater to him to hard sometimes to gauge if something’s wrong or is he was just being a punk sometimes lol. He loved table food. Thursday I noticed his stomach was swolllen and I felt around. I noticed a large lump in his stomach. I was worried because I found some discharge in my bed where he was laying down. That turned out to be for the glands in his butt from the smell. Regardless it let me feel around his stomach and felt the large bump. I took him this Saturday to the vet. Told the lady upfront and eventually the doctor saw him. Later he sent me the information after doing an X-ray that he found a large mass around his speen and free fluid which was most likely bleeding. Said he didn’t have an ultrasound so he couldn’t be 100%. Told me if I wanted to take him to surgery at an ER place it would be very expensive. So I scheduled it for today but he never made it. Last night he got up and started waddling around like he was dizzy so I immediately took him to the ER. At that point after the doctor looked at him. They said he was in bad shape. Had lost a lot of blood and were trying to just stabilize him. Before they could event think to operate. The chances of him surviving were not great because of the blood loss. If it was successful, he wouldn’t have much time because it was 90% likely it was cancerous. So I decided to put him down yesterday. The nurses made an observation that they didn’t understand why the doctor did not do surgery on Saturday after the x-ray was taken and saw the free fluid which was blood? I can’t answer that. I’ve read reviews where he comments saying he has been doing this for 23yrs. So it’s not like he didn’t know. Maybe he just wanted to go home on Saturday? To me, he didn’t care. He was willing to do it Monday(today). I won’t ever be suggesting this place for vet care and if/when I get another dog. I surely won’t bring him here. He also got his check up on June 23. When why this wasn’t caught then, I was told the doctor didn’t feel anything. So in less than a month, he grew a softball sized lump? Bloodwork didn’t show anything. I was told during his diagnosis that he didn’t have an ultrasound machine. After 23yrs you don’t have this equipment? I saw a lot of reviews of positive things. Maybe I was the unlucky one. Take it with a grain of salt I guess. I hope for you, you don’t find yourself I’m my situation. My dog was just fine three weeks ago. And from Saturday he declined to fast which is what the ER doctor said usually happens with these cancers. They are just fine and then decline in hrs. I was hoping and praying he would make it to surgery today. I wasn’t ready to lose my dog and make a decision to put him down. So quickly. Knowing this was cancerous, I knew he would get maybe 9 months w chemo? Maybe 5-6 if I just didn’t the surgery w no chemo. So the ER doctor didn’t great explaining that. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of effort from this doctor. You knew he was bleeding. Why not just do surgery when I dropped him off Saturday? I guess that’s in his conscience. If he even has one after 23yrs. I’ll add the picture I took on Saturday. Didn’t think that would be his last photo. I would like to update my review. Things could have turned out better, and I wouldn’t not have written this review, had the doctor taken the time to explain these things to me on that Saturday when I picked him up. Somehow Had the time to email me and write a response?

I was so scared to go back to this place because I read some of the reviews, but to be honest I’m so glad I did. They always take good care of my Pom Buddy! And the new lady Baylee at the front desk is so nice! 😊 Dr. Pelton has seen Buddy since he was 3 weeks old he’s 6 years now. He always takes good care of him. Thank you for everything!

I can’t say enough nice things about this place. My kitty is difficult to deal with (he was feral and not a baby when I found him) he’s skittish and stubborn. This vet and his office staff are very honest, knowledgeable, responsive, and caring- I trust them completely. Over the last few years, separate occasions I’ve had an urgent situations with my kitty they responded quickly either getting him in or even just for advice-I think I’m going to start bringing all my animals here from now on.
