How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospice

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This is the second time (unfortunately) we have used Blue Pearl to say goodbye to our sweet old ones. But we would never do it any other way. We are so grateful for the comfort, care, and compassion of Dr. Meeks. She put our Tyson at ease and made his transition from this world as loving and comforting as possible, to both us and our boy. We got to hold him and kiss him and be with him in his home through his final breath. It’s never an easy decision and the process of losing a loved one is truly painful, but if saying goodbye is the most loving option, we would not go about it any other way.

Let’s be honest. This is not a service that any pet parent wants to use. However we had to put down our 15.5 year old dog yesterday and we could not have been happier with the quality of care and service we received. Dr Emma Brawn was gentle and explained all steps of the process to us. Along the way she made sure to give us plenty of time to say goodbye to our girl. At no point did we feel rushed or hurried, and we felt so good knowing that Reba was able to pass comfortably at home- looking out the window- without the pain or fear of having this done at a vet’s office. From beginning to end our dog was treated with dignity and while we are of course sad to have lost our girl, I am at peace knowing that Blue Pearl did it in the kindest and most dignified way possible.

This is my first review ever - wanted to show my gratitude and appreciation for Dr. Sandberg during a very difficult time! We had to help our 14 year old golden retriever cross the rainbow bridge and she was incredibly compassionate, professional and comforting. She made a difficult process so peaceful for us and our fur baby in the comfort of our home. It could have been such a traumatic time and she made every possible accommodation to honor our pup and make sure the experience was pain free. Highly recommend!

Other than perfect health and more time there really wasn't more we could of asked for. The experience I had dreaded turned out to be a gentle and serene one. Livi was surrounded by her family until she peacefully passed. Thank you BluePearl Pet Hospice for your loving and caring touch in the toughest of circumstances. Letting go and saying goodbye.

This was probably the hardest and most heart wrenching decision I made in my adult life but I'm so glad I chose Blue pearl pet hospice to help me through it. I knew my Bandit was suffering as he dealt with CHF for over a year and had bowel issues that worsened within the last few days. It's so hard to see our pet family suffer and be unable to know what they need. I called Blue pearl hospice and they were gentle on the phone and patient. They did not require info from my previous vet which was such a relief because I moved from Dallas to Houston and didn't want to feel judged for not having that info. Never did I feel any judgment or any way other than cared for. Scheduling the appt was the hardest thing to do, but I had a beautiful few days together with Bandit, although the anticipatory grief is probably equally hard. My mom and her husband came to be with me and us when Dr. Janet arrived. I asked her to text and not knock and she let me know when she was 25 mins out and texted at the door as I requested. I'm still in shock and grief but I could not have asked for a more compassionate person to help send off my sweet Bandit into a peaceful end to his suffering. This is the biggest tax on pet ownership-actively choosing a companion you're almost guaranteed to outlive. How grateful I am to have his sendoff at home. If I have to make such a sorrowful decision again I will never go another route. She did a clay pawprint and hair clipping for me to remember him by as well. She sat there and listened to stories about Bandits mischievous and special life. It takes a truly compassionate and deeply caring human to do what Dr. Janet does, and did for us that evening. It was the best choice so I did not have to worry that he would one day suffer and die in a painful way. As much as my heart is still breaking, I'm so thankful he was at peace, with us, and I'm honored to have held him and told him I loved him in his final moments. She left quietly and respectfully and we chose to have a home burial. Bandit is resting eternally under a million stars on a hundred acres of family farmland.
