How to Save Money at Old Town Veterinary Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Old Town Veterinary Hospital is simply outstanding! The entire team with Dr. Salinas is caring, compassionate, and it's clear that they genuinely enjoy what they do. The front desk staff are always pleasant, making every visit a breeze, and they are incredibly helpful and responsive when I call with concerns about my pup between visits. It's such a relief to know that my dog is in good hands here. I can't recommend this place enough—love everything about it!

My dachshund, Ruby received kind, exceptional care during her teeth cleaning and removals. They monitored her aftercare and called informing me that she required more time to pull teeth and then for recovery. She received pain meds there, and to be administered at home. I was given a post operative folder with side effects, if any, to watch for. This surgery worried me, but this practice has such top notch care and doctors, that she slept all night, and was playful the following day . I am so pleased and grateful for Old Town having such an outstanding group to treat my four legged loved-ones now and in the future .

I’m so thankful for Dr. Salinas and the entire team at Old Town Vet. ❤️ Dr. Salinas has taken excellent care of both of my pups, providing prompt, thorough care over the past two years. From keeping my pup healthy during a challenging spay procedure to providing a quick response to tapeworms, this team is not only professional and available but extremely kind and fun. Thank you for everything OTV! Appreciate you all so much.

Had such a great experience here. First time coming and wanted to have my senior pup checked for her heart murmur. She has been coughing on and off and I wanted to make sure her medicine was correct. The doctor was incredible and everyone here was so friendly!!! I didn’t wait for more than 1 minute in the lobby before getting into the room and they stayed to explain everything in great detail with me about what to expect, what they think is happening and what to look out for in the future. Questions were answered that my other vet never was able to answer and it felt so relieving to have care for my dog that felt genuine and reciprocated. We checked out and I made payment right in the room so I didn’t have to juggle my dog in the lobby while paying, everything was so convenient. They even texted to check in a week after to see how she was doing! Incredible team and doctors. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!

Dr. Salinas and Kort were fantastic with my older dog Corra. I went in for a sick visit but also a new patient visit. I had some anxiety about switching to a new vet and I’m so glad that we did. The care and attention to detail was 100% top notch. You can tell everyone really cares about your pup and they are really nice. I had a lot of what if questions and Dr. Salinas was able to provide her true thoughts and opinions. I come from a medical background and while it’s not with dogs it results in me digging a little deeper into potential issues. She didn’t brush off any of my concerns and gave me a clear list of steps and options. I had also mentioned that I had went through a costly orthopedic surgery with my other dog, and while I want Corra to receive great care I didn’t want to do everything under the sun. I was happy with the options she proposed and it was really nice that they provided me with the estimates upfront. Other vet offices almost make you ask what it will cost and can make you feel bad for asking. I will go above and beyond for my pups but I also have to be mindful that she isn’t on any pet insurance and at her age of 12/13 not many will cover her anymore. My cousin is also a surgical vet tech and has worked in offices for a long time, when they gave me the quote for a 3 view chest X-ray I asked her if that was a normal cost, to which she said it was reasonable and makes sense. I felt that my previous vet did a lot of up charging so it was also nice to know that wasn’t the case here as other reviews have mentioned reasonable pricing. Also, the fact that they were so transparent with what it would cost before doing anything made me feel safe.
