How to Save Money at Vetco Total Care Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words cannot express how much I appreciate all of the staff at this clinic! From the front desk all the way to back of house, they always deliver a positive experience for me and my sweet boy. Clear and consistent communication, transparency regarding treatment cost, and staff that care about what they do makes the journey to Frisco worth it. The fact they offer Saturday appointments is a huge plus!

The Vetco hospital in Petco is really great. All of the staff really care about your animals. The veterinarians are great and give you lots of options and give you prices before you have to make a decision. My dog was very sick and they worked us in to their schedule.

I've been taking my two cats to this location for a couple of years now. Generally I would have rated 4.5 stars for transparent pricing, easy appointments, and generally good care. Today I am rating the full five stars because the vet tech Cienna noted my cat was very nervous and sat with him until he had calmed down a lot. Best vet visit we've had in a while

I visited this location last minute as I was asked to babysit a puppy and was unknown to me that he had fleas. I took them in along with my other dog on two separate days within the same week at this location for prevention and treatment, and a rabies shot. about 10 days after my 2 separate appointments for 2 dogs, which is today july 19 2024, I receive a phone call from the hospital manager who very clearly had his identites confused, and began accusing me of 1) having a daughter & 2) me or my alleged “daughter” going behind the counter of the front desk and taking a personal dog figurine of the front desk employee. He claimed to have seen security footage and that I had a child with me. He didn’t even know my name or use the correct name on the account during the phone call. Called completely out of the blue and claimed that the front desk employee, Alec, said I had stolen it. I had MULTIPLE interactions with Alec and another staff member named Emily, they both know me by name and face and have assisted me multiple times. Not once was I alone in the hospital nor did I ever notice a figurine. During my first visit, Alec himself brought me into the exam room where I remained until the Dr saw my dog. At the second appointment, I was escorted into the same exam room but was asked to go to my car and retrieve vaccination records, which at that time they took my dog from me and held him while I went to the car. Let me be clear. I don’t have a child, and I was there alone with a dog carrier for my first appointment and then a leash the second time. The absolute unprofessional behavior and accusations against a customer who spent about $300-400 at your establishment is absolutely disgusting. I was considering making this my permanent vet but I will never recommend it. Such a shame since Dr Jared was a great vet to my dogs. Before you go around calling patients, maybe get your facts, names, and stories, straight and train your employees to not bring valued possessions into the workplace. I will be contacting corporate as well. I wonder if I was the only one being accused or if there were others, the hospital manager didn’t even give me his name and once he realized he didn’t have any correct information, he backpedaled on his statements and hung up leaving me absolutely stunned at the type of interaction I just had. Insane!!! Do not go here!

I've been bringing my 2 pups to Vetco for a bit now. I have nothing but great experiences! Our vet Dr. Meintjes is incredible. Also Cienna and Alec are so kind. I highly recommend!
