How to Save Money at Wedgwood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

After trying many many vets when my pet was little I went with my friends recommendation and tried Dr Lozzi! Best decision I have made. He's very straightforward and wants the best for your pets. The ladies that work there are so good with my dog and make him feel very comfortable when he's anxious. If they keep your pet they call with updates and make you feel at ease.

This place is incredible! If your animal gets sick this is the place to take them. They have a great staff that is friendly and Steve does an excellent job caring for the animals. I highly recommend this place for service.

The vet and staff were great. Great first impression. Hopefully it continues with great service. I was disappointed with my previous vet and this vet was recommended to me and I'm glad I took my fur baby. Questions were answered right away and testing done right away for the meds that we needed. I recommend this clinic to others.

Couldn’t agree more with Jessica‘s review from six years ago. Seems nothing has changed. My wife has been there several times with our dogs because it’s convenient to Wedgwood. We kept going back thinking it was just a fluke and surely they couldn’t be that rude and condescending always, but we were wrong each time. The last straw was when I walked in three minutes before closing (which I know can be annoying after a long day), to see if they carried a certain pill I was having a hard time finding. The assistant would not stop talking about how she couldn’t believe the door was unlocked. She kept swearing to the vet that she had locked it as if I weren’t standing in the room right in front of them. I looked around for a muzzle for her, but I guess they don’t carry those either… jk, but seriously! The vet wasn’t much friendlier. There are many places to take your pets and I would recommend checking them out. We definitely have them too many chances…

I used to love this place, but then the staff became uncaring and rude. When I would bring my dogs I felt the care was reasonable, and would put up with the uncaring attitudes. After all, they were 30 seconds from my house. But when one of my senior dogs needed the care most, the staff mistakenly gave my appointment away for end of life care and WOULD NOT see my dog. Dr. Lozzi supposedly informed his staff, WITHOUT seeing my dog, that he didn't think he could do much for it and would NOT uphold the appointment - he was too busy and soon to close. That is exactly why I wanted to go to MY DOG'S EVERYDAY VET of 8 years for a review before making the hard decision to put him down. So instead, I had to go to a strange vet, who showed more compassion in one visit than I have had in 8 years at Wedgewood Animal Hospital. So if you are looking at a vet that just wants to do physical exams and charge for heartworm medication, this is the one. If you need some compassionate care, I'd go elsewhere. I will never go back to this vet ever again, even though I am a block away. I'd rather drive across town for any compassionate care. All of my dogs will be going elsewhere.
