How to Save Money at Northeast Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have real issues with this place. I went in to in ask about pricing on vaccinations for dogs. I was told 47 dollars per animal. So I went back the same day to have the shots administered. When I got into the examination room I was told the shots cost 80 and change. But I had to have them done because the next day I was crossing the border to have my animal checked by a veterinarian in Juarez, to whom I have been trusting for 7 years. When the veterinarian came in, a tallish lady with brown hair, she examined my dog and immediately told me that she had cancer. She never asked to take a biopsy, nor did she ask to have blood panel done.I had seen the nodule she was speaking of. I have some experience with tumors having seen both cancerous and benign. This one to me was not a cancerous one. But I was unsure and wanted the Dr. in Juarez to examine her. She was very rude, and told me that my dog should be spade, I told her that I was getting a second opinion the next day. She scoffed and stormed out of the room. She never introduced herself, nor gave me a proper greeting when she came in. I don’t ever recall her even looking me in the eye when she spoke. After she left she had her assistant try to hand me an estimate for surgery for 1500 dollars! All without even knowing for sure what the tumor’s status was. I did go to the Juarez Dr the next day. He did the blood panel, and did a thorough examination. He told me with certainty that the nodule was benign. He does all his own laboratory work on premises and is a third generation veterinary Dr. I will never return to these people. Very unprofessional. And after going

I am very upset with this clinic. I took my fur baby to have his annual shots at my usual clinic, to which he unfortunately had an allergic reaction to the vaccines. And the only clinic open at the time of his reaction was North East so I took my baby and told the reception my dog is having a MILD reaction to the vaccine (before it got severe). They took my baby to the back to be examined by the doctor, in which the doctor said the reaction was “NOT APPARENT” to them. We were sent home to buy over the counter Benadryl and within 10 minutes my poor baby’s face swelled up, he began to vomit and his eyes were itchy and swollen shut. So I took him back to North East and they said now we see it, when this whole situation could’ve been avoided if they treated him before it got worse.

The clinic is nice but the wait time is ridiculous. We had an appointment for 10am. We waited so long our dog fell asleep in the exam room. After over an hour we had to ask if they forgot about us. I don't think we will be back to this clinic.

I started taking all my pets to Northeast Veterinary after this was the only place open to assist in Tokyo’s care after being run over. The care they provided during her healing was heartwarming. My cat also had an emergency, and they immediately took him in, and now I will not go anywhere else. It’s a very clean, friendly place. I am thankful for the phenomenal services, especially during an emergency.
