How to Save Money at North Hills Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Thank you North Hills Veterinary Hospital for taking good care of my baby Cloyee. She injured her right rear leg and Dr Wolf, Sara and Randy were great! They were attentive, understanding and seemed very knowledgeable in my babies needs. This was my first time here and I'm glad I chose this Vet Hospital. Their pricing is reasonable and they accept Care Credit and All Pet Credit. I will definitely be bringing all my pets here in the future. They wrapped up my cat's foot in a soft wrap (not a cast) and gave an injection for pain and provided medication to take home. If you've never been to this Vet before, try giving them a chance and provide a review on your experience for others in our community.

10/10 recommend this place! My dog was in need to be seen by a veterinarian right away, and because of this I decided to do a walk-in around 11AM on a Monday. They took me in right away despite me being a new customer. Filled out my pups paperwork, and they let me know what they think could be causing my pups skin issues. They issued some medications, and thoroughly explained everything to me. Which I truly appreciated because I feel some vets will try to charge you an arm and a leg without explaining as to why it costs so much. I had to do some more follow up exams because my pup still seemed to have issues, but this team was not only the most nicest/caring team I EVER worked with, but they seemed very knowledgeable and supportive of my animal. The charges for this place is also something to be mentioned as this place has been nothing but reasonable. Which in this economy, IS VERY nice. I will be only taking my pup here from now on moving forward. 10/10 all around. Wait time, customer service, and pricing. Thank you North Hills Vet!! (:

I took my two very anxious dogs this morning for their immunizations and to ask about their allergy/skin issues. The front desk staff was extremely patient and was able to give me all of the information I needed prior to going into the office. Upon arrival, check in was quick and we were seen immediately. Dr. Wolf was very patient and quick with my boys vaccines, which I genuinely appreciated. She provided me with some suggestions on helping with the allergies/skin and I was pleasantly surprised that she didn't immediately write me an expensive prescription, as most previous vets offices have. Prices were similar to the surrounding vets and staff was upfront about the cost of each service. I look forward to seeing how the clinic continues to grow and we will likely be returning in the future.

Horrible customer service!! I called yesterday in regards to pricing, times dates, and if an appointment is needed or not. I was advised that an appointment was not needed for tail docking. That it would be a walk-in, and that could be done before 5 pm as they close at 5 pm. I came today, and the front desk said nope walk in stop at 4pm. Because the doctor leaves for the day. Which makes no sense. Wouldn't the walk-ins need to end prior to 4 if the doc leaves at 4 pm? She stated that they can no longer dock the puppies' tail after this week as it would no longer be the same procedure. Not only did they waste my time yesterday, but they wasted my time and gas today. The front lady needs help with customer service, as she didn't show any compassion for the wrong information being provided. If the staff can't be on the same page with basic information, it makes me wonder what else they don't know.
