How to Save Money at Loving Paws Veterinary Care, LLC

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am blown away by Loving Paws. They are the best vet I have ever taken my dogs to. First I took my 2 female dogs in a few months ago for yearly vaccines and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. Recently, we saw them as we suddenly had to euthanize one of our male dogs. They got us in quickly, they wrapped him up all cozy in a blanket and talked us through the procedure. They let us stay as long as we needed to cry and be with our boy. Today I just received a card in the mail that the entire staff signed sending well wishes to our family. They truly care about our pets AND us owners! I’ve never experienced this level of kindness and thoughtfulness from a vet clinic before. Thank you, Loving Paws!!

Loving Paws veterinary care is absolutely the most outstanding and pet loving clinic I have ever taken my dogs. My PTSD service dog got very sick and they got me right in. When my service dog, chocolate merle mini Rat Terrier got very sick, my anxiety just skyrocket. They not only took care of my boy & figured out what was best to do for him: They also took care of me. They were as concerned with me as they are my dogs. I absolutely love Dr. Schroeder, my dogs love him, and his wife Joanne is a total gem. I will never take my dogs anywhere else, but loving paws, veterinary care. I highly recommend them. You have to know that if I trust them with my service dog, who is my lifeline, they must be doing something right. The black-and-white is a standard Rat Terrier who is 7 months old and Dr. Schroeder has been taking care of him since the beginning. He will soon be a trained PTSD Service dog. I trust all four of my dogs to Dr. Schroeder.

We had a great first experience here yesterday! My dog got a pretty deep puncture wound from running into a branch. Loving Paws was able to see her right away when I called. Since my husband is immune compromised, they met us outside and wore masks. Joan and Matt were both very kind. The doctor saw her, gave her a mild sedative and stitched her up within 15 minutes. The price was less than I expected for the procedure, antibiotics and pain meds. They even called today to check up on her. I really appreciate how caring they are!

Great facility, attentive staff, willing to work with me to get specialty tests for my turkey. The staff took steps to keep my bird comfortable, calm, and took swab samples quickly and gently. She was so happy with her gentle treatment she went right back to hunting bugs in the grass when we got home, zero fear, zero stress.

Compassionate, Caring, Empathetic, Professional, There are not enough positive words in the English language to describe how great Dr. Schroeder and his staff are. I have been driving down to San Marcos for the past 10 years for our family’s vet needs. Last week our tiny senior dog got sick and we needed to see a vet fast. We discovered Loving Paws was down the road, so we decided to give them a try. They were very responsive when we contacted them, and we were able to get a late afternoon app. Our tiny doggo was not seriously ill, and just needed some fluids until the stomach issue worked its way out of his system. Total cost was very competitive, and it was pleasant not to fork over half of the magic beans I traded that cow for earlier in the day. This week our other senior dog who suffered from severe hip-dysplasia finally got to the point where he could not walk by himself anymore. Again, I made an app with Loving Paws, but this time with a heavy and deeply saddened heart. I carried Max into the clinic and they immediately put us in a comfortable side room. The room was not cold, clinical, or sterile, it was warm and calming. They brought Max a blanket so he could be comfortable while he waited. When the time came to send Max over rainbow road, Dr. Schroeder and Jennifer were right there sitting on the floor with us. I never felt rushed, ignored, or alone, not for a single moment. The level of compassion, empathy, and understanding that Dr. Schroeder and his staff demonstrated helped to ease the pain of Max’s travel over rainbow road. So, I say this with a very thankful heart… Dr. Schroeder, Jennifer, and Joan at Loving Paws are running a wonderful vet practice that is worth your time, your money, and your beloved pet’s health. Lowing paws is a local business, owned and operated by folks who live locally. So, they have a vested interest in the community and the pets who live here. They have very competitive pricing along with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Dr. Schroeder never tried to push additional services or expensive procedures on us. Loving Paws is all the things you look for when considering your pets health: Humane, Caring, Empathetic, Friendly, Professional, Understanding. You get the point… Give Loving Paws a try, you have so little to lose and so much to gain. R.I.P Max, you are a good boy, the best boy ever!
