How to Save Money at North Dallas Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can’t say enough good things about North Dallas Veterinary Hospital and especially Dr. Denise Hudson. I had never been to them before, but my dog was diagnosed with a massive spleen tumor and I was searching for vets who do spleen removal. After much research, I found them via an Internet search on a Saturday. Fortunately, they were open and Dr. Hudson called me back after her last patient and spent a long time on the phone with me talking about what spleen removal would involve. She was thorough and compassionate and helped me make an informed decision. She even reworked her schedule to fit my dog in that Monday. She did a meticulous job on the surgery, was great to personally follow right after the procedure, and when I brought Emma in for her check up, she spent a good amount of time with us and answered all of my questions. She explains things extremely well and truly cares about the pets she treats and their owners. Everyone at the hospital is great. They are warm and efficient and I would highly recommend them, especially if your pet needs surgery. Their pricing was even much better than another vet hospital’s.

Always awesome. Treat your fur babies as thier own. Also the only one that has ever cleaned my dogs teeth. He lost a few because his old vet wouldn't listen kept saying they're fine. They weren't AT ALL! Thank y'all for listening to me & helping him. Blessed day y'all!!!🙏... CLnChico2 💞

From the moment we walked in the staff/ team were friendly. One person saw that my dog was shaking and in discomfort & pain and set up a room with a mat for us to go to. I've never had a vet place do that before! And then when the vet Dr. Finney came in, she almost immediately got down on the floor with my pup, checked her out and then sat on the floor with her while answering all of our questions We felt so comfortable with the place and we'd never been there before. It's great to think our pup is in great hands especially as she's having surgery!

I loved this clinic for 16 years. Dr Ford & Dr King (both now retired) always went above and beyond, along with their supportive staff. It was my lifesaver for years, and all the stray animals I brought, from raccoons to pit bulls. They never turned me away, waited after hours, and met me on weekends and early mornings. This clinic was sold to a chain three/four years back and no longer represents the values it once upheld. Dr. Denise Hudson & Dr. Dave Washatka are both solid, the rest not so much, and the office manager, Jessica, leaves much to be desired. I am not one for leaving bad reviews - however, the standards Dr. Ford had set for over 25 years are no longer present after the sale of this business.

BEST VETS & vet team EVER. Seriously. I’ve had many pets over the years, and now have two elderly dogs. I’ve never felt like my pets were more loved, and cared for, as well as a vet team that is invested in wanting to make sure I understood exactly all the things that I can do to make my pet’s life the best it can be!
