How to Save Money at Pets Paw Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

So the service we received today was horrible!! If you have a puppy and want him/her to be traumatized for future visits than definitely come to pet paws!!! So this entire visit was rushed and completely unprofessional!!! We had an appointment for 11:30am arrived on time and still had to wait and half an hour to be seen, okay no big deal, then when it’s time for my 11 weeks old Rottweiler to be seen, he couldn’t even get a room so hints why I said rushed (I had to wait in the front lobby and watch two of the worst technicians poke my baby several times while he was being held in the the other technician arms!!!) They poked him so hard he was bleeding badly and Had the audacity to try to return him to me with all the blood just running down no care or concern at all!!! The lady working the front desk had to go get napkins and Alcohol pad and apply pressure to the wound so he can stop bleeding!!! I Definitely don’t recommend!!! Horrible, I extremely saddened by this visit!!! Our last visit was with Dr. Brown when he had his eight week shots (If you don’t schedule under her, please do not her!! She has Compassion and you can tell she really loves her job) The technicians here thumbs down, The doctor that they worked under today, who couldn’t even oversee the crappy job and service they gave me thumbs down to him as well) shout out to the lady working the Front desk, they only decent human being in his place at this point!

Nice place, staff was friendly. Love the resident bird. Place has a grass strip outside, useful for potty time. Love the skeletons super cool.

Went in to establish care for my newly rescued fur baby. The staff was so attentive and helpful over the phone and during the visit. The tech was very attentive and established a relationship with the pup before the doctor came in. Dr. Foster was very nice, went over the rescue documentation, examined my baby, gave suggestions and was extremely kind. The entire staff helped me and my fur baby feel welcome. I recommend Pets Paw for your veterinary needs.

I could not give a higher recommendation. I avoided needless surgeries going to this location for the first time. They are very honest and very affordable. The staff and doctor are friendly and sociable. I was greeted instantly by multiple people the first time I went in and got to meet the doctor. I was greeted immediately when I dropped my cat off at 7:30 a.m. for surgery. That is luxury! This location is about 1/3 of the price of my prior veterinarian services. I am no longer in debt going to the vet!

I took my two birds (parakeets) here for the first time due to my suspicion of one having a respiratory disease. The doctor gave both birds a physical exam, then said respiratory disease was probably likely. I could tell everyone knew what they were doing for the most part, and the staff seemed friendly enough. Each bird’s exam cost roughly $64, which isn’t bad considering how hard it is to find a good avian vet in the area (Even though that surpasses the cost of the bird itself…) I was given antibiotics and sent on my way. Make sure you do your research before making an appointment—if you suspect your bird’s sick, it definitely helps to know what symptoms to take note of before coming into the vet.
