How to Save Money at Turning Stone Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

A huge THANK YOU to Dr. Hooper & staff. They saved my baby Whiskey & took such great care of him after surgery. They were able to fit him in quickly, the surgery went without a hitch & he’s recovering so well. Everyone there is so kind & they did all they could to help him. I’m so grateful. I’ve never been to a vet & had such a positive experience.

Want to first start off and say they are great! Of course any vet bill is going to be expensive, I know they were only charging me for my dogs Health exams and blood work had to be done. They're not the ones that make up the prices, all the nurses and staff were a really great help. It was easy to get in and get seen, they we're always on time to help me with my dog. Wednesday of last week I had a bad Health scare where my dog was lethargic, not eating, drooling, throwing up, and having diarrhea. I couldn't get him to keep any food down and I was worried as hell, when then I called a couple of locations they were all booked I called Kitty Hawk animal hospital and they recommended Turning Stone animal hospital. I've used Kitty Hawk animal hospital before for their services and I know they're great and I thought I would give turning Stone Animal Hospital a try. I was not disappointed their staff, their location was super clean they took the time to explain what we were doing, why we were doing it and what /how it could be prevented. I dealt with Dr. Hooper and Dr. Griffith. They explained dosage amounts and let me ask as many questions as i had about his treatment. Turns out is was all just from a bad GI upset. They even called the next day after not hearing from us to see how he was doing, I hope and pray I will no longer need their services but if I do I know where I can come and know i will be taken care of because he is my son. Over $1800 later but hes healthy and still with us and that beats any dollar amount!

I went to save this stray cats life today only to have to put him down. It was a tragic experience only made worse by the relentless staff endlessly talking about money. In fact their behavior was so abhorrent I would never recommend this bet to anyone. All they care about is money. I told them several times I didn’t care what the cost was. They would listen and continued to try to sell stuff for a cat that was going to be put down because he was too far gone to help. Does any of this make sense to you??? I’m baffled. Please find a vet that is animal friendly. This place sucks.

Taking my pets to Turning Stone Animal Hospital had been an amazing experience for me: First, the staff are amazing at handling appointments, checking in and out; if there were any issues, I was informed immediately, communication was superb. Second, the place is clean, nice and bright. Third, the doctors are thorough as well. I had Dr. Griffith first and was very pleased with how she educated me about my dogs’ health, then I had Dr. Hooper & her care was awesome. She educated and helped me make informed decisions for my pets. I highly recommend this place.

Clean facility, welcoming staff, and friendly vet. Our dogs got into a tussle over the week and the smaller one was acting odd. It was easy to set a next day appointment and the checkup was wonderful. They examined him and identified the injuries and a plan forward. The bill was broken down by line item and they answered all my questions respectfully and without jargon. The dog is feeling much better. We are happy he was able to receive such amazing care.
