How to Save Money at Whitestone Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Walden and her team are the best! They are very caring, knowledgeable, and kind to my high maintenance 3 English Bulldogs. They are patient with my inquiries, questions and requests; and always follow up! I highly recommend Whitestone because you'll receive the best care & service ❤️ My pups also love going to Whitestone (no shaky legs!)

At absolutely no fault of theirs, about 3 months after we transferred our 4 dogs and had their annual checkups with the wonderful Dr. Kramr my 12 yr old mini aussie had a bad scratch on her eye and started having “seizures”. We were “new” clients and Dr. Walden had never seen us before but got us in a few hours after I called on a Saturday morning. She spent so much time with us, did several tests on her eye and blood work, etc then set us up for a follow up that Thursday. Amazing ! At her follow up she was doing well but her eye wasn’t healing properly so she gave us a list of three eye specialists and said to call when we picked one and she would send over her report. The next morning she had an episode at the park, we called and they actually got Dr. Walden on the phone in less than 10 minutes. We discussed what happened and she recommended a medication to start right away. They are 15-20 minutes each way so offered to check if our local CVS had it since it is 5 minutes away. The vet tech called CVS, called us back and we had her medication immediately. She did great for 5 weeks then had a full blown stroke one morning. We called right away to ask if we should stop in on the way to the ER. They had only been open 45 minutes, Dr. Walden had vet school students coming in after lunch for a 4 hour work study and it was Saturday! but we were told Dr. Walden said come there first if she was stable. She worked her in and spent a lot of time with us talking about causes, options and different steps needed depending on how she did until Monday when the neurologist would be at the ER. Basically Dr. Walden, Dr. Kramr, all the vet techs and everyone at reception act like we have been clients for years !!

I have a couple of very spoiled dogs and when I recently moved here I was really worried about finding good veterinarian care and services. Whitestone and Dr. Wendy are absolutely the best ever, even better than my former vet who was excellent. My pets had to have a lengthy stay due to some housing issues and they were healthier and happier than ever when it was time to bring them home. I couldn't be happier. Whitestone is my source for good pet health and boarding. The vet techs were also outstanding. Thank you Whitestone!

Always a good experience. Dr. Grigsby is thorough and considerate and never rushed. She lays out options along with her recommendation with consideration of the circumstances. The staff is personable, kind and professional and understand the relationship clients have with their animals. I have the greatest confidence in Dr. Grigsby and her staff.
