How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words cannot express how absolutely incredible VEG is! While we were out of town for a wedding, one of our dogs suddenly needed emergency care and the boarding facility had to bring him in to VEG. Dr Crawford and her team immediately began caring for him and keeping us updated throughout each step. Knowing he was getting such superb care and being treated so well, took away a lot of the anxiety of us not being able to be there. I hope nobody ever needs to have emergency care for their pets, but if you do, VEG will be the absolute BEST !!!

I have visited VEG twice. First time to bring a cat I adopted not long ago who is afraid of people. It was my first time taking her to the vet. She had a lot of tests and everybody was caring, friendly and professional. I was allowed to be present for the testing. All results were printed and thoroughly explained to me. My second visit was to have my senior furbaby cross the rainbow. I need to give special thanks to Dr. Ashley Pritchett for compassionately helping me through the entire process. Shout out to Sheila for a very nice conversation when I called to get some information. I highly recommend VEG! Both my visits were difficult and the entire staff was excellent.

A huge huge huge thank you to this place for taking care of our Ms. Phoebe. Everyone was so kind and so accommodating. Thanks to this place and their team, our cat phoebe was able to come home to us for a little while longer and she’s able to breathe better. They allow you to stay, watch everything that happens, and they are so kind when it comes to questions, phone calls, all of the things anxiety ridden pet owners do with all of the compassion in the world. A huge special shout out to Jenny, who in the middle of the night helped us give our Phoebe meds, and also taught us how to administer it. Jenny also was reassuring to us, and made us feel heard, seen, and you can tell she cares. Even though Ms Phoebe can be a little feisty and mean around strangers, seeing Jenny be so kind to her and helping us out in the process is something I will remember forever. Thank you all for giving us some more time with our beloved family pet. And for giving phoebe love, and help. No amount of gratitude can express how truly amazing they are to be in the line of work they are in and thank you all for caring about our little ones.

This place is amazing. From their process of complete transparency with the care of my fur baby to letting me stay with him 100% of the time, they were warm and welcoming and gave the most patient care to a very scared kitty. The doctor took her time and made sure we understood what was going on the whole time. Nothing was rushed. It is truly the first time I have felt this comfortable with someone caring for my fur baby. Thank you truly from the bottom of my heart ❤️

A Heartfelt Story of Hope and Gratitude at Veterinary Emergency Group, Cedar Park 🐾❤️ Last October, our beloved Bella, just 4 years old, faced a life-threatening emergency. We visited multiple clinics, spent thousands of dollars, yet they demanded more without truly caring for her. It broke our hearts when we had to let her go because we couldn’t afford $20k upfront, and the doctors who were supposed to help didn’t show the compassion we desperately needed. Our spirits were crushed. After Bella’s passing, we struggled with the idea of bringing a new puppy into our lives. But our other dog, Fluffy, needed a friend, and our family needed a source of joy to help heal the pain. So, we decided to welcome Luna into our family. Although it was difficult, it turned out to be the best decision we could have made. Luna brought back the energy, love, and fun that we missed so dearly. She seemed to carry a piece of Bella’s spirit within her, and her presence brightened our days. Logan started to play with Luna every day, forming a beautiful friendship. Fluffy began to recover faster, and Luna made us smile again. She truly was a miracle for all of us. But two weeks ago, while we were at home and Logan was sick, Luna suddenly collapsed. She, who was always so active, just fell to the floor and didn’t move. We were terrified. My husband rushed Luna to the hospital, and we were told she needed an emergency operation to save her life. She was transferred to the Veterinary Emergency Group in Cedar Park, where our fears intensified. We knew the cost would be high, and we were horrified at the thought of losing another beloved pet. But today, Luna is here with us, healing well, because the doctors and nurses at this hospital truly cared. They provided all the necessary treatment and helped us find the best financial options for her care. We gave everything we had, and Luna’s life was saved because of their dedication and compassion. We are deeply grateful to the Veterinary Emergency Group in Cedar Park. They reminded us that there are kind-hearted professionals who genuinely care about their patients and their families. Thank you for saving our Luna and restoring our faith in veterinary care. 🌟❤️
