How to Save Money at Lovan Care Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Our dogs have been clients for the past 9 years and we have to say that Dr. B and Wendy are amazing. They were caring and supportive to us while we said farewell to one of our dogs and they even sent us flowers. Our other dog still loves going to see them!

Dr. B and Wendy are amazing!! I came for annual exams for my four pups and will continue to come here for anything! They truly listen to all concerns I have. I can see that they genuinely care about my pups. Dr. B explains everything well and clarifies any doubts I may have. They inform me of cost before moving forward. Recently my pups have had to be seen and when I call I am so happy to hear Wendy’s voice. She makes it feel like home. She gets every piece of information needed for my apt. I love that my pups can be seen that same week as well. When I arrive for my apt Wendy goes over the same information I provided when scheduling my apt and I love that! Sometimes I forget to give information because I’m just worried about my pup. Every time I come I learn new information. My drive from Austin to Bryan is worth any time of day. Dr. B and Wendy informed me about their online pharmacy. I have signed up to get my pups medication and supplements shipped automatically. I love the fact that it notifies me of an upcoming shipment! This makes it so much easier since I live in Austin. I referred a cousin to Dr. B and Wendy and the same treatment I receive they received as well. My cousin has non stopped bragged about the care they received. She explained that is was phenomenal and loved the environment. She liked the fact they listen and explained everything. She herself will make the drive out there from Austin as well. Whether in Bryan, Austin, or wherever you are, I recommend the drive to Bryan. I will continue to come here always! Rain, snow, or whatever Texas weather wants to hit us with I will continue to come here.

Dr. B and the team took great care of my little dog Max. I used their boarding, spa and veterinary services. They are exceptionally compassionate and knowledgeable. When it was time to let my little one go, they did it for me during the middle of their move, even though they were closed, so that I wouldn't have to go somewhere else. They were kind and sensitive and made a horribly sad day go by a little bit easier. Max and I love you guys! When it's time to get another dog, I'll definitely be back.

I’ve heard good things about this place but I wasn’t very happy with my experience. I am the type of owner that likes everything (exam, blood draw etc.) to be done in the room with the owner. My animals were taken to the back for an hour without me. The veterinarian and technicians should be confident enough to do things in front of the owner. Also, they did not specify or ask if they could do multiple vaccines. This could have been covered and solved if the exam was done in the exam room. Lastly, I have fostered many kittens, worked at many vet clinics, owned animals my whole life and have never been charged so outrageously for basic first vet visit things. They did everything before discussing the prices with me, and came in after everything was said and done and said that it would be around $500! The veterinarian only came in one time for about 3 minutes before I checked out. I don’t ever write reviews, but I’m just unhappy about how everything went down today.
