How to Save Money at Hill Country Animal Emergency Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great Animal emergency hospital by far! Our dog Zeus was taken in one night due to feeling sick and unfortunately he came back positive with parvovirus. The hospital staff was amazing on the phone and in person especially with us being emotional. Gratefully we were able to catch the virus early and our dog Zeus made a full recovery. No words can describe how grateful I am with the staff and how they took care of us. Highly recommend taking your animals for any type of emergency.

From the bottom of our hearts my family thanks all the nurses and the doctor that saved my baby boy. You brought back the joy in our family🩷. The care and compassion everyone had including the doctor were outstanding! Peligros had to have emergency surgery and they did everything to help along the process it was definitely not cheap but it was all worth it in the end for top tier care and treatment🩷. My baby boy is fully recovered after his stomach twisted and is now living a normal happy life. Our family could not thank you guys enough for the amazing work you did and for saving my best friend and other half🫶🏽

We have just had an amazing experience with Hill Country Animal Emergency Hospital. Our dog was seriously ill, and when we arrived in the evening he was in very poor shape. They did an initial triage assessment and then a thorough examination and a series of various tests, all executed with technology and expertise onsite. All of the data was quickly used to ascertain that he needed emergency surgery. Everything was explained in great detail, and we were able to make an informed decision with peace of mind. The surgery ended up being a complex and lengthy procedure to fix a rare situation (twisted enlarged spleen). The surgery was a success and our dog is recovering well. We were extremely impressed with the knowledge, expertise, professionalism, clear and timely communication, friendliness, and diligence of the ENTIRE staff, but especially Dr. Dielmann. We couldn’t have asked for better care – our dog’s situation required a significant level of understanding and expertise from veterinary staff. They all were completely and passionately invested in insuring a positive outcome. You know when people love their work, and that it’s more than just a job. This team loves what they do, and we were blessed to have found them. Thank you so much for saving our dog’s life, we are very grateful.

Our dogs ate some pills and we were so concerned they would be toxic. The vet checked out the vitals and everything turned out with no issues! We were so relieved and went on our way. Thank you HCAEH for your love and compassion for our dogs, Buzz and Woody.

We took our 14 week old Shih Tzu in due to blood in her stool and vomiting. I thought it was a blockage because she had ate some cardboard the old pup had pulled out of the trash. The staff asked me to wait outside due to the symptoms being similar to parvo virus. Luckily they did that because my pup tested positive for parvo. I didn't realize she was also a little lethargic as well. She was given fluids and the Vet explained what options we had for treatment. Amazing that there is a monoclonal antibody available for treatment of parvo and that's what we went with. I was able to bring her home, isolate from the other pup, and now on day 3 she is back to her old self again! Never lost her appetite, drinking plenty of water and has tons of energy! Thank you all for the best care my baby girl could receive!
