How to Save Money at Dessau Veterinary Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We are so lucky this vet is so close to our house. We have had to make many quick drives there with our old-man-cat, Kitten, the staff has been like a new family to him and always make us feel so welcome with their warm-calming and caring demeanor.

I brought 2 kittens in to be tested for giardia. I've been rescuing, fostering and adopting out cats for many years and know far more about feline illness than most pet parents. The vet tech was drama hungry and assumed that I was an idiot because I didn't have the doses for the medication memorized. She concluded they were being improperly dosed. I could hear her gossiping about it in the back room and twisting the information I gave her. She got the vet all worked up and the vet was clearly angry throughout the consult. Even though the test for giardia was positive and I was right about the diagnosis and the medication (and as it turns out had been giving them the correct dosage); I was still treated disrespectfully, condescendingly and lectured. Just before I left I was given written information about giardia which would have been fine except for the snide comment that it came from a 'reputable medical journal'. It is insulting that they assume the worst about pet parents and forget that some of them actually get their information from said 'reputable medical journals'. So I won't be back and caution other pet parents-- when you speak to some of the vet techs there, you will be judged and "everything you say, can and will be used against you".

Worst vet clinic. Told me my cat needed the UR cat food. Really expensive. Never actually did a test. A few years later took my cat back in. Told me he had fleas because his stomach was missing a lot of hair where he had licked it. Our cat had been like that for several years. We had recently finished going through 2 months of flea treatment, had an exterminator over, and I knew for a fact that my cats were flea-free. Vet started to belittle me like I’m a child telling me she was right and I was wrong. She never even checked the cat for fleas and told me to treat for fleas. I decided to try a different vet. The new vet told me she suspected the licking was due to an allergy, possibly the UR food that the Dessau clinic vet had prescribed. She actually did a test and realized our cat didn’t have crystals and didn’t need the UR food. We stopped the food and soon he stopped licking the hair off his stomach. Not only did the Dessau clinic cause me to waste A LOT of money on food my cat didn’t need AND treat me like a child, they actually did my cat MORE harm by prescribing food they were allergic to without testing. How are people like this even in business?

My dog is completely traumatized about having his nails clipped. Did some research before I finally and thankfully arrived here, referred by a dog groomer. Amazing caring and professional staff at this place. Got all his nails clipped in less than 10 minutes and he will probably do better next time too after this positive experience. Special Thanks to Danielle a nd Anna that were the ladies that helped my 🐶. Almost forgot, it was also a walk in !! And I would drive 10 hours plus to come back here 😁! Thank you! ❤️
