How to Save Money at Veterinary Emergency Hospital of Arlington (Urgent Care)

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff and doctors were all super nice and friendly from the moment we got there to the moment we left. They went above and beyond for my dog Bee who was there for bite wounds, they kept me informed through the entire process and gave me a quote for all the services and medications. Having a pet emergency is never something you want but if you have one this is where we will always go from now on. I felt like all the staff and doctors genuinely cared. Thank you for providing such a great place where pets can receive the urgent care that they need while at the same time keeping it affordable. I will refer all of my family and friends for any future emergencies. Much love!

Called out of work bc I noticed my Rotty, Bear had a lesion that looked wet and smelled. He wouldn’t let me touch it without jumping back. I called my vet and they wouldn’t be able to get us in for another week. I was worried he had some kind of skin infection. I arrived when they opened and was surprised how quickly they got my baby to a room. Turns out my boy had a hot spot! I have three pups and this was my first experience with hot spots. Bear was very anxious about being in the back with strangers, as any dog would be, and the staff let me go to the back room to comfort my baby while they administered a sedative so they could trim and clean the wound. I appreciate the efforts to make the pet feel more comfortable. Connor was great! Very knowledgeable and explained the charges, procedure and after care in detail. The pricing is very reasonable as well, compared to an ER visit. I’m so thankful to have this place for situations like these. I’m writing this review about three weeks later and Bear is back to his goofy self :) I’ve included a before and after of his hot spot on his neck.

Getting it Together

The main reason for this long review was my experience with Connor. This has been the best experience with a tech I’ve ever had. If he ever becomes a veterinarian I’ll travel anywhere to make sure he’s the one treating my Luna. I love my dog Luna she’s everything to me. I felt shame when I brought her in the condition that she was in. I left her in the care of family I considered trust worthy even paying them for the care and expenses. I regret not visiting or getting her sooner. I could have caught the lump on her breast before it progressed any further and caught that her skin was having a reaction. My family had made no indication that her condition had changed. Even for their lack of awareness to her condition, it was ultimate my choice in trusting them that got us here. The whole drive to the clinic I was afraid of what her lump could mean and scared of being judged and being seen as a horrible pet owner. After I explained my situation to Connor he assured me that there was no judgment. All they were focused , on was helping me and making sure Luna got better. Not only was he welcoming and kind, he did so well with Luna even demonstrating the use of a pill pocket. My dog always spits out medication but the pill pocket worked wonders. He walked me through everything that had been billed including an itemized price breakdown, what each item was for & why each item was important for Luna, and answered any questions/concerns I had. He recommended multiple clinics for Lunas tumor removal. They were also very accommodating to Luna since she is reactive but not aggressive. To say the least finding that my dog has a tumor is the scariest thing to learn but they made it less frightening. Before leaving Connor expressed that if we ever needed anything they would be there to help and to come back again. It’s wonderful to know you have someone willing to go the extra mile. Bring your pet here Connor will treat them as his own. (Lastly things to note) Connor discovered some of the dosage instruction had been cut off due to a printer issue while he was double checking the prescription and their instructions with me. They were also very affordable I came in prepared to pay a good amount but was pleasantly surprised with a $360 vet bill.

The staff here are amazing! We brought our dog there for a weekend urgent care visit after she got a postoperative infection and we felt it could not wait to see our regular vet on Monday. They were cheaper than our regular vet and even offered to let us get the needed antibiotics from a pharmacy. We were so impressed with the kindness and compassion that we brought our other dog there when she needed to be euthanized a month later. They brought a blanket for us all to lay on with our dog, and Dr Montoya was so kind and gentle. We’ve had to put our beloved dogs down before and this was by far the best experience. Also it was cheaper than what our vet charges for euthanasia. I would not hesitate to recommend their services!
